1043 Self-built City Wall
Half an hour later, at the top of the village’s sentry tower, Ao Cang saw a large group of zombies rushing toward the village.
They also brought along a large number of carts. The carts were full of materials. There were many bodies of savage beasts, as well as tools and equipment.
He couldn’t tell what it was, but it felt weird.
One of the guards hesitated for a moment and looked at Ao Cang, “Captain, we…”
“Let’s go, we’ll go and receive them together!”
“Yes!”
The entrance of the village opened and the Empire’s guards came to receive them.
Harper was accompanying and protecting the group of zombies.
He had the same thoughts as Ao Cang.
Zombies could help transport supplies?
The zombies had almost turned the entire sentry tower upside down and emptied all the supplies!
Even some rare stones were broken by the zombies and brought back.
Why did it feel like they had encountered a group of bandits?
Harper had asked Fang Heng about this along the way.
Fang Heng said that the barbarian army would attack and occupy the outpost soon.
He could make a loss, but he couldn’t let the barbarians profit.
Therefore, he might as well take them all away!
Harper fell silent for a long time.
It sounded logical but he still felt that something was not right.
Harper was once again shocked by the village before his eyes.
Wait a minute, what happened to this small village?
Why did they start building the wall already?
After more than half an hour, the wall on the east side of the village had begun to take shape.
The zombies were still building it.
After 12 hours of non-combat state, the number of normal working zombies had doubled, and the labor force had increased.
Over 2,000 normal zombies that had their building gathering skill leveled up to 20+ were working non-stop, so their efficiency was naturally not slow.
The only limitation was the production speed of materials and tools such as furnaces mixers.
Harper was still sighing when he saw Ao Cang coming out of the village to greet him.
“Captain Ao Cang.”
“Harper? It’s great that you’re all fine. I’ll still need your help to protect the village.”
“Of course.”
After capturing the able-bodied men from the outpost to join the village guard group, Ao Cang’s mood improved slightly.
After a simple greeting, Ao Cang led the group to the camp of the temporary village and explained to Fang Heng and Harper the crisis the Empire was facing.
Under normal circumstances, the Empire’s communication network was mainly through the flying creature, the blue nestling, and the mage tower.
As mages were extremely rare in the entire Malhert Empire, the Empire could not rely solely on mages to build an effective communication network. Only a few main cities of the Empire had professional mage towers that could quickly transmit information from a few large main cities.
After the invasion of the barbarians, the falcons controlled by the barbarians won air superiority, and the communication of humans was greatly limited.
The intelligence report that had just returned from the Empire was not very optimistic.
Most of the city had been occupied by the barbarian race. It was estimated that the barbarian race would launch a full-scale attack on the city in three hours.
The atmosphere in the camp was unusually heavy.
The bad news was that most of the outer areas of Hani City had been occupied by the barbarians, which meant that there would be many barbarian teams targeting their village.
The good news was that theoretically, they only needed to hold out for three hours. By then, the barbarian army commander would launch a general attack on Hani City, and they would probably be able to catch their breath.
Of course, if Hani City was taken down, their days would be even harder.
Fang Heng and Mo Jiawei looked at each other.
Was that true?
Just three more hours?
From the mission hints, it didn’t seem that simple.
Well, Fang Heng decided not to think too much about it and focused on the current mission line.
The mission prompted that the next wave of barbarian attacks would arrive in 38 minutes.
Fang Heng looked up at the wall being built outside the village and nodded, “My zombies have detected a small barbarian team approaching the village. They will arrive in about half an hour. Captain Ao Cang, please be prepared for battle.”
Ao Cang’s expression was grave as he nodded, “Yes, don’t worry. I will be in charge of coordinating the troops and mercenary groups to protect the village.”
Ma Xiaowan nodded and said, “There’s a group of mages on our team. They were originally used to deal with dragon mosquitoes. They should be able to help us.”
“That’s great, ” Ao Cang said gratefully. “With the group of mages, we can also restrict the demonized barbarians.”
Having experienced two battles with the barbarian race, Fang Heng had a general idea of the barbarian team’s combat strength.
Basically, every barbarian team would have one barbarian who could enter Tier 2.
In the Empire, many people called this state ‘demonization’.
Before entering the trial, Fang Heng had already filled up the souls in the Shrine of Bones.
He could use the Vampire King’s soul skill again. At least, it would be no problem for him to deal with another wave of barbarian teams.
The difficulty was in the follow-up.
The barbarians came in waves, and their strength would only get stronger and stronger.
Fang Heng suddenly raised his head ad asked, “The Empire and the barbarians have been at war for so many years. Don’t they have any ways to deal with the Tier 2 barbarians?”
This question made the faces of the few officers from the Empire freeze.
That’s right, they really didn’t have any good strategies.
“It’s just that we are not strong enough. The high-level officers of the Empire are powerful. They naturally have the ability to deal with demonized barbarians. In addition, the barbarians have a high resistance to magic. We can also weaken and control them with magic.”
Magic?
Fang Heng raised his eyebrows.
“Yes, there is also a type of crystal called purple essence. Using it to make weapons can cause great damage to the demonized barbarian race. However, the annual production of purple essence is extremely rare. It is usually used as a strategic material reserve. Our remote village naturally doesn’t have it.”
Ao Cang continued to explain, “A few of the Empire’s army commanders have been stationed in the northern region of the Empire. They immediately set off after receiving the news. They’re already on the way to send reinforcements. The Empire’s mages are also rushing here.”
Fang Heng shrugged his shoulders, “Why is the defense of Hani City so lax?”
Harper gave a helpless expression and replied, “On one hand, we’re being too lax. On the other hand, this place has never been invaded by barbarians before. But this time, it’s really strange. The barbarians invaded from the vast forest area on the west side of the Empire. It’s very unusual.”
“That’s why we’re so passive.”
“Everyone, keep holding on. When the Empire’s reinforcements arrive, the barbarians will naturally retreat.”
Seeing that there was no practical value in their discussion, they could only passively defend themselves.
Fang Heng and Mo Jiawei looked at each other.
It was really difficult.
Why was the difficulty of this trial mission so high?
If it were not for the help of the zombie clones, the two of them would have given up on the mission of guarding the village and retreated to Hani City to be the last guards.
Harper said with a sigh, “It’s a pity that we lack purple essence. Otherwise, we would have been able to deal with the demonized barbarians.”
