This sentence struck Wen Xishu hard.
He didn’t know how he was supposed to face this Wen Chaohua.
"Actually... this world is great too. I can achieve my goals, I can feel so many possibilities. And it doesn’t have all that awful stuff."
Wen Xishu couldn’t help saying this. He could have held it back, really. But it was like the fool inside him was craving to stay here.
He was starting to lose some self-control.
Clearly, the other soul inside him felt this was the better world.
Wen Chaohua said:
"The world you’re in sounds very dangerous... I think there’s a high chance Little Tree won’t be able to come back, right?"
Wen Xishu nodded.
That was indeed the case. Wen Xishu believed there were places where, even if he erased his memory and went through it again, he might not survive.
There was a glimmer of tears in Wen Chaohua’s eyes.
"I should have... trusted him a bit more."
His little brother always fantasized about some exciting Otherworld adventure. Because he had been protected too well, he was always yearning for more possibilities in the world.
Every time he fantasized about certain adventures, his big brother would never get impatient, always willing to imagine with him, and firmly believe in those fantasies.
As an older brother, Wen Chaohua had already done well enough, but after learning this outcome...
He still regretted not having done more before.
At the very least, he should have taken him to challenge the most complicated escape rooms or theme parks; at the very least, he should have watched the same stories with him and discussed the plots together.
There were so many things they hadn’t had time to do, so he began to blame himself for being irresponsible.
All these emotions... turned into Bullet Screen comments, appearing above Wen Chaohua’s head.
In that moment, Wen Xishu was truly moved.
In his previous life, he had burned his adoptive parents to death, then in this life had gone through all kinds of cruelty.
But suddenly he felt it was all worth it, because in this life, he also had an older brother like this.
Yet very quickly, he fell into another kind of predicament.
"Maybe... he can survive. Before I started the mission, I got a sentence,"
"Can you prove that the world has a history? Have you ever been deceived by your memory? If this world actually only appeared yesterday, but every person in it was implanted with a long history, would they not believe that the world has in fact existed for a long time?"
Wen Xishu recited the initial mission prompt.
When Wen Chaohua heard this sentence, he suddenly had a strange, as-if-a-lifetime-had-passed feeling.
This is a question that becomes terrifying once you start thinking about it.
Wen Xishu said:
"I can’t prove... that my world has a history."
"In fact, my life has been split into two parts. The latter part is more like the delusion of someone without love, after they’ve gone hysterical."
"Maybe the world I’m in is a mistake..."
"There are too many monsters there, born from twisted humanity. There is too much brokenness and tragedy there... too many things you long for and can’t get, too many partings by life and death."
Wen Xishu sank into a huge wave of emotion.
After comparing it to a truly beautiful world, he suddenly started to wonder: does his world really need to exist?
Maybe... I am the mistake. My meaning is to realize that I am the mistake, and to provide possibilities for the other versions of me...
Maybe this world is the one that truly deserves to remain.
Wen Xishu fell into confusion.
But at this moment, Wen Chaohua suddenly thought of something.
"No... that’s not right."
Wen Xishu lifted his head and looked at Wen Chaohua.
Wen Chaohua shook his head and said:
"Little Tree, I understood what you told me before: many of you... are fighting over the right for a single world to exist, right?"
Wen Xishu nodded.
"Now you’ve seen a more beautiful world, so you feel that this world is the true world. The world you’re in is very likely just a world constructed out of some kind of false memory."
Wen Xishu nodded again.
Wen Chaohua’s tone turned stern:
"I can understand how you feel right now, because this world has everything you long for."
"If I were you, I would fall into this kind of emotion too."
"But if you choose like this, then it’s wrong. Thinking this way is absolutely wrong. You shouldn’t choose such an easy way out."
"If you long for your world to become beautiful, then you should go fix it, instead of thinking about sitting back and enjoying the fruits, just switching to another one."
"And there’s a truth you’re likely to overlook as the one in the middle of it all."
"If in the world I’m in, there are no superpowers at all... then tell me, everything that happened today, does it originate from your world, or mine?"
"According to what you said, your world has the existence called the Deceit Tower. But mine doesn’t."
"So do you think you can, by relying on a single choice of yours, negate the existence of the Deceit Tower from within its rules?"
Onlookers see clearly; those involved are blinded.
In this moment, Wen Chaohua laid out the biggest stake.
Wen Xishu suddenly sobered up.
Yes, this world is beautiful. This world feels like the grand finale.
But if he chose this world, would the Deceit Tower just disappear?
If the Deceit Tower doesn’t disappear, then once he chooses to preserve this world that has no ability to fight the eerie...
Wouldn’t this world gradually turn into the riddled, devastated world he came from?
Wen Xishu looked at Wen Chaohua with gratitude:
"Bro, I understand now."
Wen Chaohua said:
"Don’t give up your power. Don’t give up your world. If your world hasn’t rotted all the way through, if there are still many people who, together with you, long for that world to get better... then go do it."
"The eerie has brought a world full of scars, but it has also brought possibilities."
