Capítulo 1146: Chapter 431: Jungle (Part 2)
“It’s indeed not looking good; the hospitals and pharmaceutical companies we used to cooperate with are all having some internal issues…”
“Then you’ve come to the right place!”
He Jiang immediately laughed and said, “Magic City is never short of opportunities. Some people fall overnight here, while others soar high, all depending on how sharp your eyes are…”
Listening to He Jiang’s meaningful words, Yu Zetao, not daring to slack off, quickly put down his soup bowl.
“Please do guide me, Mr. He!”
“Look, there’s a true deity sitting right in front of you; why wander around looking for temples to pray at?”
He Jiang motioned with his mouth towards his right-hand side.
To the right of He Jiang sat a young man in his thirties. Though not very old, he dressed very conservatively, wearing black-framed glasses. He hadn’t said much while Yu Zetao was busy making toasts around, and he seemed to blend into the background at the table.
But anyone with a bit of understanding of banquet etiquette couldn’t possibly overlook the young man’s presence.
Because he was seated at the right side of the main seat, a position of honor according to Huaxia tradition, indicating he was the second most important guest at this banquet, just after He Jiang.
Yu Zetao didn’t know his real name, but everyone at the table referred to him as Secretary Ge, revealing his identity through that title.
“Secretary Ge, let me offer you another toast, from Old Yu!”
Yu Zetao, with a smile plastered on his face, immediately picked up his glass again.
Secretary Ge simply smiled, clinked his glass with Yu Zetao’s, but even after both had drunk, Secretary Ge didn’t say a word.
This left Yu Zetao standing awkwardly in place, unsure whether to sit or stand.
At this moment, He Jiang, seemingly with good intentions, reminded him:
“I’m just saying, Old Yu, you seemed pretty sharp when you were toasting earlier, and you’ve been in business for so many years, how come you’re acting so clueless now?”
“Mr. He, what do you mean…?”
“Think back on how President Qi introduced Secretary Ge to you just now.”
While Yu Zetao was still furrowing his brows and pondering, Qi Kai couldn’t help but interject: “Ahem, Secretary Ge has a rule, if someone toasts him, it must start with three glasses…”
“Three glasses?”
Yu Zetao’s expression changed slightly, and Yu Fei, standing beside, could no longer hold back.
“Dad, you really can’t drink anymore…”
Yu Zetao was using a standard shot glass for toasting, not very large but each shot was about 30ml.
And since entering the room, Yu Zetao had already downed nearly ten shots, amounting to about 300ml.
That might not sound like much; for many who boast about their drinking prowess, it’s merely enough to rinse their mouths.
However, it’s only been 20 minutes since Yu Zetao entered, and during this time, he hadn’t even taken a bite of food. From Yu Fei and Yu Duo’s perspectives, Yu Zetao seemed to be struggling to stay on his feet…
The fear was that another three shots might be the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back; if Yu Zetao drank them, the embarrassment would be minor, but it would mean the business for today would be completely hindered.
But the contradiction arose again… With He Jiang having put it like that, how could these three glasses not be drunk?
With a faint hope, Yu Zetao couldn’t help but cast his eyes towards Secretary Ge, who continued to smile silently.
“No big deal, if you can’t drink, just let it go.”
Secretary Ge only smiled faintly and waved his hand, appearing completely indifferent.
Yet the truth was, Secretary Ge immediately averted his gaze, turning to laugh and chat quietly with He Jiang, as if Yu Zetao, who was still standing there, no longer existed.
“Dad, let me drink for you…”
Yu Fei, eyes reddening, couldn’t help but speak again, but was once more stopped by Yu Zetao.
In a low voice, Yu Zetao quickly said to Yu Fei: “If it really comes to it, you take Duoduo and leave first, your mom can stay with me…”
There’s no unreasonable targeting in this world.
Did Yu Zetao really forget how Qi Kai introduced Secretary Ge?
Of course not.
He was well aware of Secretary Ge’s high status and his penchant for alcohol, and he also understood that He Jiang deliberately directing the toast towards Secretary Ge was to embarrass him, and the reason was simple…
About 10 minutes earlier, after Yu Zetao had finished going around the table toasting, according to the usual banquet seating, their family of four should have sat at the far end, next to Qi Kai, conveniently in a corner of the room.
But at that time, He Jiang spoke up:
“Come on, Old Yu, bring your family to sit next to me, let’s get more acquainted…”
Yu Zetao was flattered, of course, and naturally wouldn’t refuse such an offer. However, when he actually led Yu Fei and the others over, He Jiang spoke again.
“Hey, Old Yu, why not let your daughter sit next to me, she seems quite shy, probably not used to these gatherings, don’t let her go hungry because she’s too embarrassed to eat. I’ll take care of her for you, no problem, right?”
Yu Zetao was momentarily stunned, but Yu Fei’s face immediately changed color.
Take care of her?
His seemingly tactful words hid the most indecent intentions.
The most critical point was that He Jiang’s tone and expression had no hint of concealment. The way he looked at Yu Duo was as if she were already a fish placed on the chopping board…
“You…”
Yu Fei was about to erupt on the spot, but was timely restrained by Yu Zetao.
