Chapter 1041 - 977: Beginning of Trade (2)
Hailong sighed: "That’s right, it’s this much."
Da Fei laughed: "Then let’s get started!"
The ritual began, under the spell of the Naga priests, the fountain water formed a swirling vortex, and Selvia stood motionless at the center of the vortex holding the Sea Soul Staff. Then, under the pull of the vortex, wisps of smoke rose from the Sea Soul Staff and entered the water, and the number of souls within the staff decreased.
Turns out, using the Sea Soul Staff is this simple for the Sea Race. Thinking back to when Deirdre died in the Sea Soul Staff and I was helplessly forced to endure the painful feeling from Bloodrose, Da Fei couldn’t help but feel sentimental. But feelings aside, it seems I’ve forgotten the most crucial issue! I’ve returned the legion to the other party, how much will they compensate me?
So, Da Fei asked: "Um, Lord Overseer, about the compensation you mentioned..."
Hailong laughed heartily: "Ah yes, I’ll handle this for the warrior! The legion token is worth 1000 Night Light Pearls, and the souls of these 468 soldiers and war riders are worth 468 Night Light Pearls respectively."
— System Prompt: You returned the Dark Tide Temple’s 4th legion token and all legion warriors’ souls, and received compensation of 1468 Night Light Pearls from the Dark Tide Temple.
Note: Night Light Pearls are the upper-level currency of the Naga Sea Clan, portable and also usable as a medium for casting large spells of the Sea Race. The energy of 1 Night Light Pearl = 1 unit of pearl.
Looking at the sudden pile of pearls on him, Da Fei was overjoyed! This is real currency, unlike pearls which have to be hauled by shipfuls, and that would be terribly painful!
At that moment, Hailong reminded: "Warrior, perhaps you already know, human gold coins cannot be used as currency among our Sea Race. Our currency is mass-producible pearls, which are also indispensable food and spell materials for the Naga Warriors. As for these Night Light Pearls, they are magic-rich expensive pearls, where one pearl equals one unit of ordinary pearl. However, not necessarily can one unit of ordinary pearl exchange for one Night Light Pearl, so please note this. Therefore, Night Light Pearls are usually used for high-level transactions, such as the Sea God’s Tribute you need."
Only then did Da Fei have an epiphany. It seems these Night Light Pearls are like rare rich minerals; although 1 unit of rich mineral = 10 units of regular mineral energy, 10 units of regular mineral certainly cannot exchange for 1 unit of rich mineral.
Hailong continued: "As for trading ordinary goods, it’s more practical to barter with pearls. Of course, at the warrior’s level, dealing in ordinary goods is impossible, so I’ll introduce a high-end trading house in the city, which only accepts transactions with Night Light Pearls. Warriors can also exchange large amounts of pearls for Night Light Pearls, but the exchange won’t exceed 10 pearls per week, and the market varies, so please be aware of this."
Da Fei nodded repeatedly: "Thank you for the guidance, Lord Overseer!"
Although their enthusiasm is obviously an effort to win me over, with clear intentions, Da Fei was nonetheless moved. Therefore, he thought of rewarding them, and asked: "By the way, I have the soul of an Abyss Lord and a Demon Eye Governor in my Sea Soul Staff. Is Lord Hailong interested?"
These two souls can’t be used for a ghost ship because they aren’t water monsters, and Da Fei didn’t know their purpose, so he considered getting rid of them.
Hailong laughed and sighed: "These are the proof of the warrior’s glorious achievements, but unfortunately, we can only utilize the souls of water monsters. Land creatures like the Abyss Lord and flying creatures like the Demon Eye have no use. However, if the warrior really wants to sell them, I can introduce you to the black market at the temple, where everything is acquired, especially the souls of the strong."
Unexpectedly, the Nagas can’t use them either, Da Fei was a bit disappointed but still thanked him again: "Thanks for the guidance!"
Hailong chuckled: "I might as well teach you everything at once!"
And so, Hailong informed Da Fei of several important places in the city, including the docking location of the Orca, giving Da Fei some understanding of this strange city.
While talking, the ritual ended. Hailong laughed: "Let me take you to the high-end trading house! I believe the warrior can’t wait to trade."
Da Fei laughed: "Actually, my next step is to return to my territory. Building it well will better enable exchanges and integration between our land world and the Sea Race."
Hailong laughed heartily: "The warrior speaks wisely!"
So under the guidance of the Overseer, Da Fei and his group left the temple, and Da Fei saw Sona again, who was still crouched outside, confessing.
Seeing her again, Da Fei felt a pang in his heart. So he decided to act, and asked: "Lord Overseer, I have a request." Humph, since they’re keen on me, I might as well indulge myself.
The Overseer was surprised: "What is it, warrior?"
Da Fei sighed: "Originally, going to the trading house is a minor matter and doesn’t need the Lord Overseer to accompany me personally. I’m very grateful. But thinking about future trades in various Naga cities, having a local Naga guide seems a good idea—"
Saying this, Da Fei raised his eyes to observe the Overseer’s expression. The Overseer still calmly asked: "The warrior’s meaning is?"
Da Fei pointed to the Naga hero on the ground, took a deep breath, and said proudly: "I feel that I’m so strong that her defeat wasn’t wrong! Instead of exiling her if she’s wrong, why not let her work in my fleet?"
Indeed! I’m a dragon-slaying god-killer, her defeat is quite normal. How could it be wrong? That’s my charisma!
As soon as Da Fei said this, the Overseer indeed trembled, and a gleam flashed in his eyes! Da Fei also saw his eyebrows twitch, wondering if his request was excessive, as it interfered with their domestic affairs, challenging their limits.
But the Overseer laughed: "The warrior is right; she indeed isn’t a match for the warrior’s strength!" Then he sternly ordered: "Sona, now you’ll serve the warrior, dutifully guiding and advising him!"
Sona immediately responded: "Yes, Commander!"
Da Fei was stunned on the spot! Is it settled just like that? What the heck! How did both of them agree so readily?
Sona stood up and bowed gracefully with a Naga ceremony: "Defeated Sona wholeheartedly willing to serve the warrior. For anything unclear, the warrior may ask Sona for help."
— System Prompt: Naga Hero Sona has become your follower!
Seeing Sona’s humble expression and the Overseer nodding approvingly, in that moment, Da Fei suddenly felt a strong sense of being tricked! Damn, didn’t I just let the other side plant a spy in my crew?
What the heck! A mistake!
But no matter, I’m conducting fair business and construction openly, not afraid of being watched. Moreover, from now on, I should pay more attention to the Sea Race heroes. Although I can’t recruit Vice Heroes anymore, I should think long-term about forming a team for Catherine to become the Pirate Queen.
Thus, Da Fei clapped and laughed: "Thank you, Lord Overseer, for fulfilling this, and thanks to Lady Sona for not holding a grudge! So let’s leave it that the Overseer doesn’t have to accompany me personally!"
The Overseer laughed: "Alright, I’ll take my leave, the Dark Tide Temple always welcomes the warrior’s visit!"
