"I forget how new this feels when someone else is on the receiving end of a full activation,"
"The first time the vision settles is always the strangest,"
"You will get used to the feeling of being on the other side of it,"
"Most people never notice it."
Alex kept his shoulders steady even though the residual chill had not fully left his skin.
He refused to give the reaction more weight than it deserved.
"I am not scared," he said.
"It was just a new feeling, that is all,"
"The sense of being watched that completely is not something I have felt before, not even through the bond when it was only emotion and direction,"

"Alright," Zara answered, the amusement still clear and warm across the link.

She began to retract the element.
Alex felt the withdrawal as clearly as he had felt the arrival.

The kind he could still see through because of the synchronized Shadow Element, but no longer with the layered, kind of omnidirectional clarity her active vision had provided a moment earlier.
Only when the element was fully at rest did Alex speak again.
He kept Adaptation running in the background, still processing the data it had gathered from both the activation and the retraction.
"How long can you see in the dark like this?" he asked.
"I mean more clearly, do you need to use the skill Shadow Vision every time you want to see in conditions like these?"
"Do you need to repeat the full movement from core to eyes the way you just demonstrated, or is there a shorter method once you already know the path?"
Zara looked at him and answered.
"No, this dark is nothing,"
"The room is too small for me to bother activating Shadow Vision just to look around,"
"I can see normally here if I want to, my shadow affinity is unnaturally high because of the Primal Shadow Bloodline,"
"Ordinary darkness does not obstruct me the way it does most people,"
"I do not need the formal skill for something this limited in scale,"
"The passive affinity already handles short distances and ordinary night without any extra effort on my part,"
"I just did the activation of my skill to show you how it is done at the beginner level."
Alex turned that over, comparing it against the sensation he had just experienced through the bond and the way the chill had vanished the moment the element returned to her core.
"Then when do you actually use the skill?"
"If the passive level is already this strong, what does the active version give you that is worth the cost of moving the element every time?"
"Large fields," she said.
"Mostly at night,"
"When Shadow Vision is fully active it lets me see everything across a very wide range,"
"I can analyze an entire open area without any of the usual vision problems that come with distance and low light,"
"The depth stays clear, the edges stay sharp and nothing blurs or disappears into grey the way it does for people relying on ordinary eyes,"
"I also use it in dark caves, or in dense heavy jungles where the canopy blocks almost all sunlight and the dark stretches for a long way in every direction,"
"Places where passive affinity alone is not enough to cover the distance or the complexity of the terrain,"
"For short distances like this room, I manage without it,"
"You might be able to do the same in the future if you gain enough affinity and proficiency with the element,"
