Alex turned his attention to the rest of the skill list still hanging in the shared space between them.
Shadow Vision.
Silence Skin.
Tendril Lash.
Shadow Mantle.
Four established skills sitting beside the new Aspect Activation entry, all of them already present at Rank 1.
He counted them again to be sure, then looked up at Zara.
The oversized fur coat still hung on her frame, the dark scarf still hiding the marks on her neck, but none of that distracted him from the numbers and names floating between them.
"Is it normal to have this many skills at the first rank?" he asked.
"Four combat and utility skills plus the new one,"
"Most of the records I have read show people walking away from their initial awakening with two or three at most,"
"Sometimes only a two basic skills and the rest locked behind later levels."
Zara considered the question for a moment.
The bond carried the quiet shift of her thoughts as she organized the answer, the same measured focus she used when she was about to explain something she considered important.
"It depends," she said.
"On the class you awaken, on the bloodline feeding it, and on how carefully you spend the skill points the system gives you as you level,"
"Some classes are generous with early skills,"
"Some bloodlines force extra ones into existence whether you want them or not,"
"The Primal Shadow Bloodline and the Child of Shadow class both lean toward giving the bearer tools early,"
"I will admit I have a few more than most people sitting at Level Fifteen,"
"I did not complain about it when they appeared because extra options in a fight are rarely a problem."
Alex accepted that with a small nod.
The clinical part of his mind filed the information away for later comparison against his own extremely limited skill list.
One skill.
[ Skills : Mana Absorption. ]
That was all the system had given him so far, or more exactly he had gained so far, after awakening his mana heart, and he had built everything else through Adaptation and raw practice.
Zara’s gaze turned inward again.
He felt the precise moment she opened his interface through the bond the same way he had opened hers.
Her expression shifted almost immediately into something sharper.
Realization, clear and sudden, the kind that made her eyes narrow slightly as pieces locked into place.
Alex frowned.
"Why are you making that face?"
"Mana Absorption," she said, still looking at something only she could see.
"That single skill explains several things I never had a clean answer for,"
"During the mana formation training years ago, the way you pulled ambient mana into yourself was faster than it should have been for someone still at Level Zero,"
"Faster than most Awakened I have watched work with the same formations,"
"I thought it was just the Mana Heart being unusually efficient,"
"It was that, but it was also this,"
"The system gave you a dedicated skill for drawing mana in, or more accurately you gained one,"
"That is why the absorption rate never matched what your level or rank said it should be."
She finally looked at him again, the realization still sitting openly on her face.
"And your Magic attribute, 50,"
"That too without any class boost and without spending extra points the way I did over the years,"
"If I removed the plus ten from Child of Shadow that goes into Magic, we would be sitting at almost the same number,"
"That should not be possible at your level,"
"Most people at Level Zero are still struggling to even feel their Magic,"
"Your Mana Heart is something else entirely,"
"It is not behaving like a normal core at all, it is processing mana instead of just storing it, and the system clearly recognized that when it handed you the skill."
Alex felt a quiet flicker of agreement through the bond.
He had known the Mana Heart was different since the day it formed in the wreckage of his childhood room.
Hearing Zara put the pieces together out loud still landed with a certain weight.
She had watched him train for seven years.
She had felt the bond change.
Now she could see the numbers that explained the gaps she had never been able to close with observation alone.
"I want to see the rest of your skills properly," he said.
"The ones you already had before Aspect Activation appeared,"
"If I am going to start working with the Shadow Element in any real way, I need to understand what tools actually exist for it,"
"Instinct will only carry me so far."
Zara’s expression softened into something closer to the familiar, slightly teasing calm she wore when she was about to hand him a problem and watch him solve it.
The bond carried a warm pulse of agreement underneath the surface.
"Go ahead and check them yourself," she said.
"The bond is already open,"
"You do not need my permission to read the descriptions,"
"And you are right about needing them,"
"Now that the Shadow Element is fully synchronized, you will need actual skills if you want to do more than push raw shadow around by instinct and Adaptation,"
"I can teach you the ones I know,"
"I just do not know how long it will take for them to settle properly."
She paused, the bond carrying a small pulse of honest uncertainty that she did not bother to hide.
"I have never seen anyone hold a pure elemental affinity without a matching class to support it,"
"Every shadow user I have met or read about awakened into a shadow-related class first and gained the elemental skills part of that package,"
"You did it backwards, no, not even backwards, you don’t even have a class yet, you are working with a totally different system, it’s just that you and everyone else has to level anyway to grow powerful,"
"You forced the element into existence through Adaptation and the bond,"
"So the usual progression path might not apply cleanly,"
"The skills might take longer to learn or they might settle differently,"
"We will have to figure it out together as we go."
Alex met her eyes for a moment.
"Together, then," he said.
He turned his attention back to the skill list and focused on the older entries one by one.
Shadow Vision first.
Then Silence Skin.
The descriptions began to unfold in clean, precise text in front of him, the bond holding the shared view steady as the information settled into place.
