Chapter 1251: Section 1252: The Stronghold City Remembered
But when Sanders heard Angel’s account and learned that Wodell was connected to the will of the continent and that the continental will was close to Angel, his worries finally eased somewhat.
Though this was only Wodell’s side of the story, the credibility was not small when based on logical consistency and related expressions. Furthermore, Wodell was an ancient being who had lived an unknown length of time. At his level, there might be some details concealed, but there was absolutely no need to deceive Angel.
That is to say, Angel probably hadn’t been exposed.
After receiving this information, Sanders felt somewhat relieved.
“If Wodell were to be placed in theatrical literature, he would indeed be a tragic epic character. As a former Emperor of the ancient cold era, he has spent so many years at the gates of Wei City, which is both a defense and an atonement.”
After Sanders expressed his sentiment, he briefly mentioned Kulangduo, however, Kulangduo had only used a piece of Heiyu as a token of gratitude for Angel’s work in saving the continent, and there were no other clues, so Sanders did not dwell on it.
“Besides that, there shouldn’t be anything else, right?” Sanders asked.
Angel thought for a moment, as if he had thought of something, “Right, there’s one more thing. Wodell entrusted me with a task, although he said he wouldn’t insist, under the circumstances at the time, I estimated that if I didn’t agree, I definitely wouldn’t be able to leave the ancient cold Wei City. So I had no choice but to agree.”
Sanders raised an eyebrow, “It seems it was a difficult task?”
Angel shook his head, “Not difficult, just very troublesome, and it will take a great deal of effort.”
“Tell me about it,” Sanders was curious too. What could it be that Wodell, at his level, would actually need Angel’s help with?
“Wodell hopes that the indigenous people who left would return to the Continent of Yuantan to live and breed. However, since he is deeply connected to the continent, he cannot leave the Continent of Yuantan. So, he requested my assistance for this task.”
“You mean, he plans to rebuild the Continent of Yuantan and revive the glorious days of the ancient cold era?” Sanders’s heart stirred, as if he had grasped something and promptly asked.
“Yes, after the True Spirit Force helped the Continent of Yuantan get back on track from its downfall, Wodell felt he had wasted too much time and could use some change. He now hopes to bring the indigenous people back to their true ancestral land, to restore the former glory of the ancient times.”
“How did you respond to him?”
“Because the task was too troublesome, so…”
“So, you didn’t agree?” Sanders’s tone carried a sense of urgency he had never had before, which made Angel feel somewhat strange.
Without further thought, Angel simply shared his considerations.
“I agreed to Wodell, but because it was so troublesome, I thought about it for a long time and got the idea of the external Stronghold City. I made a request to Wodell, hoping to allow humans to also settle in the Continent of Yuantan. After all, Yuantan has been desolate for too long. Now it lacks both resources for life and an ecosystem. But the witches have the ability to transform landscapes, so they could promptly establish a living circle for both indigenous people and humans in Yuantan.”
When Angel said this, he was quite proud, “In this way, if other people are mobilizing the indigenous people to return to Yuantan, and they help with the construction, it would not be so troublesome for me! Two birds with one stone!”
After listening to Angel’s account, Sanders’ heartbeat suddenly quickened.
He restrained his excitement and asked with forced calmness, “What was Wodell’s response? Did he agree?”
Angel: “I told him about how in the external Stronghold City, humans and indigenous people live together harmoniously. After hearing that, Wodell agreed. However, he set a condition that humans must not enter the ancient cold Wei City, only to establish a Stronghold City on the outside.”
After Angel finished speaking, there was a long silence from Sanders, and Angel looked over in wonder.
But he saw a light in Sanders’ eyes, murmuring to himself.
“Mentor, what’s wrong?” Angel softly pondered, “Did I do something wrong?”
According to Angel’s thinking, with all the wizard organizations trying to establish Stronghold Cities in the Abyss, his actions should be a good thing for the Witcher Organization, right? Moreover, many Apprentices of the wizard organizations are training on the surface of the Abyss, so having a safe Stronghold City should be beneficial, shouldn’t it?
Or is it possible that the Barbarian Cave has no intent to extend its reach into the Abyss?
While Angel was pondering, Sanders finally spoke.
His face beamed with joy, “Correct! You did exactly the right thing!”
After Sanders had finished praising, he looked at Angel with excited eyes, “Has Wodell given you the task of constructing the Stronghold City? Do you have the authority to arrange which humans and indigenous people can enter the Continent of Yuantan?”
Angel nodded, “Yes.”
Upon hearing this, Sanders couldn’t contain himself any longer, his face showing a rare smile, “You’ve done even better than I imagined!”
Sanders’ joy left Angel still somewhat confused.
It seems his choice at the time wasn’t wrong?
Seeing that Angel didn’t understand, Sanders explained with a smile—
For a Witcher Organization, establishing a stronghold city of one’s own in the Abyss offers too great an advantage!
The conquest of the Abyss is now almost entirely divided among the major wizards’ alliances of the Southern Domain, with the Frostmoon Alliance being the most prominent. Other Witcher Organizations might covet the Abyss, but the safe stronghold cities are all occupied, making it impossible for them to achieve anything.
But now, the Continent of Yuantan has emerged out of thin air!
If a Witcher Organization could build a stronghold city on the Continent of Yuantan, it would definitely disrupt the power distribution on the surface of the Abyss.
After all, there are no demons on the Continent of Yuantan, and as long as Wodell doesn’t start a massacre, it might as well be called a safe zone!
What does a safe zone mean? It isn’t just about not having to worry about demon invasions; for Witcher Organizations, it’s an extremely cost-effective deal!
Because here you could establish a long-term interdimensional transport point to the Southern Domain without worrying about it being destroyed.
You have to understand, the amount of resources, manpower, and time consumed by these interdimensional transport points is beyond imagination. Near every stronghold city in the external world, there will be such a transport point. If a stronghold city falls, for instance if Ashenrock Giantstone is destroyed, then the corresponding transport point becomes useless, and all the magic crystals spent on it go to waste.
But it’s different in a safe zone. Here, you can build transport points without fear of danger!
The resources of the Abyss are too abundant! Whether it’s adventuring, training, or acquiring demonic materials from this place, any organization can grow quickly.
It goes without saying, a secure stronghold city not only benefits the apprentices at the base of a Witcher Organization but also provides unimaginable advantages to the mid-level wizards and the core power circle. After all, even if high-level forces aren’t interested in the surface’s demonic materials, they can’t possibly ignore the interests within the deeper layers of the Abyss. If the Continent of Yuantan could become a gathering point for human wizards, it would be an excellent springboard!
After listening to Sanders’ explanation, Angel finally achieved enlightenment.
Actually, Angel had considered the things Sanders mentioned before but had not anticipated their significant importance to a Witcher Organization.
The main issue was Angel’s limited experiences and insights. He didn’t have a comprehensive understanding of the Abyss, which all wizards coveted, resulting in asymmetrical information.
However, no matter how you looked at it, Angel had made a very good decision!
Not only did he allow humans to settle in the Continent of Yuantan but this was also the best place for the rapid development and expansion of Illusion Demon Island and even Barbarian Cave!
Sanders could confirm that once this news was revealed to Rhein, it would likely be the priority of Barbarian Cave’s strategic development for the next thousand years!
Moreover, the most important “right to settle” was in Angel’s hands.
Ultimately, whether the Continent of Yuantan becomes a monopoly or allows other Witcher Organizations to settle in a limited fashion, it all depends on Angel’s single thought!
“I didn’t expect that your aversion to hassle would lead to such a perfect start,” Sanders couldn’t help but sigh with emotion. If Angel had refused Wodell’s proposal at the beginning, or had not allowed humans to settle on the Continent of Yuantan, then all this would have been for naught. It’s unlikely anyone would believe that what caused all these developments was Angel’s dislike for trouble!
Earlier, Sanders thought that dispersing True Spirit Force to the Continent of Yuantan was a waste. But now, it couldn’t be better!
Even if Angel obtained True Spirit Force, it would still be a castle in the sky, desirable but elusive. However, the rights to settle and develop the Continent of Yuantan represented sustainable benefits, tangible to the naked eye!
“I can’t wait to get back to Barbarian Cave and immediately discuss the future development of this matter with Lord Rhein,” said Sanders, before negating his own statement, “No, I can’t speak of it yet; it needs more careful consideration. This matter should be fully contemplated for all its aspects, good and bad. Since Wodell didn’t set a deadline for you, we should keep it secret for now and make a detailed plan before negotiating with Lord Rhein.”
As he spoke, Sanders turned to look at Angel with a serious expression, “During this period, you should hurry to increase your strength. This matter is too significant, and as the central figure who can’t be bypassed, if your power isn’t strong enough to command respect, you’ll end up as just a puppet.”
Angel nodded in understanding.
After issuing the warning, Sanders couldn’t help shaking his head and laughing, “I thought you were done causing trouble, but now there’s this waiting for me.”
“Don’t tell me you have some other significant matter you’re keeping to yourself?”
After Sanders asked, he noticed the contemplative look in Angel’s eyes and his heart skipped a beat, “You have more?”
Is there no end to it?!
Before this, Angel truly had not considered that arranging for a stronghold city to settle in the Continent of Yuantan could have such a tremendous impact; he simply regarded it as an ordinary affair.
If the matter of settling in the Continent of Yuantan left Sanders so astonished, then the other matter… it should also be significant, right?
With this thought, Angel solemnly said, “Phase door, Wei City has a phase door.”
