Chapter 1225: Section 1226 Hellhound Garm
Wodell looked somewhat forlorn.
As a Transcendent being, Wodell understood the mighty power of time better than anyone. Even though his memory was incredibly strong, able to recall the very last sunset on the Continent of Yuantan ten thousand years ago, the intricate play of the clouds and colors, he remembered clearly.
But memories were only images; the deeply etched emotions of those times had long been washed away by the river of time.
If that was the case for him, then all the more for ordinary mortals.
“They have forgotten, but they can also remember again,” Angel said softly at this moment.
“Forget it. When he set up that statue, it was nothing more than a hope that the remnants of that cold age could take him as their spiritual support to get through the long darkness. That era has already passed; remembering or not doesn’t matter anymore,” sighed Wodell. “Let’s go, the passageway is right in front of the statue.”
Wodell stepped forward, coming to the base of the statue.
He extended the scepter in his hand, touched the dust-covered floor lightly, and a glow emitted from beneath the dirt, transforming into a large white door laid upon the ground.
As the door opened, a passageway leading down to the basement appeared.
Wodell went down the passage first, with Angel casting a deep look at the statue of the praying church before following suit.
“From the depths of the Darklands’ Bone Burial Pit, one could also reach the underground chamber, but there are many undead clinging to their obsessions, unwilling to leave. It would be very dangerous to go that way,” Wodell droned on about the condition of the basement.
By the time they reached the end of the spiral staircase, a vast underground chamber was before them.
But when Angel and the others arrived at the underground chamber, their eyes were filled with doubt.
For a thick grey fog enshrouded the basement, obscuring the view of its interior.
As they curiously peered inside, a rumbling sound, accompanied by a whooshing wind, emanated from within. The fog began to stir, growing from faint to dense, the tendrils of mist unfurling like threads, being blown to the entrance of the underground chamber.
The first thing the group sensed was an acrid stench, seemingly brought on the wind. Following that was a presence that made everyone’s heart race.
This presence conjured up thoughts of dark and deathly melodies.
And these wisps of grey fog carried that very presence.
At this point, Wodell took out his scepter and gave it a slight twist toward the direction of the basement, and a terrifying gale, akin to a shockwave, blasted straight into the chamber.
Under the assault of the hurricane, the fog within the chamber was instantly parted, revealing the situation inside.
Because of the hurricane’s overwhelming power, Angel instinctively turned his head away, only looking back toward the basement after the wind died down.
But with just one glance, Angel froze.
The underground chamber was incredibly vast, its interior space comparable to the Marine Theater of Waterford. Yet, within such a colossal space, an enormous figure crammed the room full.
It was a gigantic black Hellhound sprawled on the ground!
Each strand of its fur blazed with black flames, warping and distorting the space around them – the scene was frightening in isolation, but when viewed as a whole, it was downright terrifying!
The Hellhound’s head lay on the ground, its eyes tightly shut, with a rumbling sound coming from its nostrils, which constantly emitted gray mist.
“This fellow here is Garm. Called the emissary of death, the Hellhound possesses darkness and spatial attributes,” Wodell introduced.
Turning back to his companions, Wodell found that, apart from Angel standing by his side, Greerwu and Popota had retreated a few steps. Even Angel, who appeared calm, was trembling in the lips.
The Hellhound instilled sheer terror – not just because of its size, but the intimidating aura alone was enough to cause their hearts to throb with dread.
“Don’t be afraid, Garm is still asleep. Even if it wakes up, as long as you have Kulangduo’s Heiyu, Garm will not attack you,” Wodell reassured.
At his words, Angel unconsciously gripped the black feather in his hand tighter.
It was a while before Greerwu gathered his courage to ask, “Wodell, Your Highness, where is the passageway you mentioned?”
“The passageway lies below Garm, who is asleep; it’s a natural pattern of spatial attribute connecting this continent to the upper layers of the Abyss. Garm chose this place for its proximity to the Bone Burial Pit and because of its spatial attribute, to rest and heal,” Wodell explained.
Angel looked at the ground of the underground chamber and indeed there was a strange pattern, but over 80% of it was obscured by Garm, indicating how enormous it was.
“And, and when will it wake up?” Greerwu, holding his heart, grew even more fearful as each snore from Garm came with a thunderous sound, releasing vast amounts of deathly aura that made his heart beat like a drum.
“It will wake up soon,” Wodell said, before slowly flying into the basement.
Standing at an imposing height of over two and half meters tall, Wodell still looked minuscule compared to Garm. Wodell stood before Garm and pointed his scepter lightly at the ground.
An invisible ripple spread from the point where the scepter touched, expanding outward.
As the blast passed Garm, its tightly closed eyes slowly opened… a slit, a flash of dark red light vanished in an instant, and a terrifying aura swept through once more, forcing even Angel to retreat a few steps.
However, Garm only opened a slit, and then closed its eyes again.
Just as they wondered if Garm had fallen asleep again, a languid voice suddenly came out, “Hey, old man, why did you wake me up if you weren’t guarding outside?”
This voice didn’t come from Garm’s mouth but from above Garm’s head.
A shadow fell from the top of Garm’s head and swiftly and nimbly arrived in front of Wodell.
It was then that everyone saw the speaking shadow was a miniature Hellhound. It looked like a smaller version of Garm, but without the flames rising from its body, its black fur naturally fluffy, and its crimson eyes gleamed like the finest pigeon-blood rubies.
“I’m going to send a few people to Moliere Land.”
The miniature Hellhound turned its head toward the door, its gaze slowly sweeping over everyone. Those it looked upon felt a chill down their spines until finally, its gaze settled on the Heiyu in Angel’s hand.
“Kulangduo actually gave his feather to a human,” the miniature Hellhound muttered under its breath, then looked at Wodell, “Who are they?”
Wodell’s lips moved quietly, seemingly explaining to it.
As Wodell spoke, the miniature Hellhound scrutinized Angel with a skeptical look.
Angel couldn’t hear what they were saying, but if it was just an explanation of identities, it shouldn’t have taken this long, probably there was a discussion about other topics as well.
“Did you notice just now, it seemed to say—woke up,” Popota came up to Angel and whispered in the common language of humans.
Angel nodded, understanding Popota’s meaning.
Indeed, from that one “woke up,” it was apparent that the story Wodell told earlier about waiting for Garm to awaken before leaving was all a lie.
If Wodell could “wake up” Garm, then he could make Garm awaken from its slumber at any time.
Angel became even more certain that if he hadn’t agreed to Wodell’s request, Wodell probably would have let Garm sleep until the end of time.
After a long while, Wodell finally concluded the conversation, and the miniature Hellhound suddenly transformed into a shadow, instantly appearing before Angel.
It stared curiously at Angel and after a while, Angel only heard it murmur softly, “Looks very weak… Killed a True Spirit? How did he manage that…?”
The miniature Hellhound circled around Angel, and although it didn’t show any aura, Angel still felt a spine-chilling sensation.
After a while, the miniature Hellhound without any warning spouted a stream of black fire, flying towards Angel.
Angel was startled and was about to use a warding technique, but before he could move, the black fire circled around and dived into the Heiyu in his hand, disappearing without a trace.
The miniature Hellhound turned into a shadow and leaped back onto Garm’s head.
“All right, he’s leaving, can leave at any time. If he wants to return, he just needs to bring Kulangduo’s feather to Moliere Land, and I will be able to sense him.” After saying that, the miniature Hellhound yawned and said to Wodell in a languid tone, “I’m sleeping, try not to disturb me in the future.”
After speaking, the miniature Hellhound disappeared, and Garm on the ground once again started snoring thunderously.
Wodell then came out of the basement, “Garm has memorized your scent. Holding the Heiyu, walk in, and the spatial patterns underneath will transport you to Moliere Land. In the future, if you wish to enter, you can also bring out the Heiyu in Moliere Land, and Garm will sense you.”
Upon knowing they could leave, both Greerwu and Popota showed happiness in their eyes.
Angel nodded toward Wodell, “Thank you.”
“I should be the one thanking you,” Wodell said with a faint smile. “Without the Savior, I probably would be keeping the company of old friends down below.”
Angel looked at Wodell, said no more, but turned and nodded at Greerwu and Popota, then headed first toward the basement.
But just as he took a step, Wodell suddenly said, “Almost forgot, there’s this too.”
As Wodell’s words ended, a faint radiance bathed everyone.
The light fell upon them and disappeared without a trace.
“What’s this?” Angel looked at where the light had vanished, feeling nothing unusual.
“Many eyes from the outside world are noticing the Continent of Yuantan, this can temporarily conceal the scent of Yuantan on you,” Wodell explained.
Angel was taken aback, Wodell’s words reminding him, “Just appearing in Moliere Land so openly, wouldn’t that raise suspicion as well?”
“Moliere Land is quite unique, for now, no eyes are watching over that place,” Wodell said and then suddenly lifted his gaze as if peering into the far reaches of the Void. After a while, he smiled, “However, Moliere Land is quite lively these days.”
