Seeing the people around with expressions of surprise but not much astonishment, it was evident that Mr. He was not doing this for the first time...
For a moment, Yu Zetao seemed completely at a loss for how to react, and could only respond with silence, his awkward smile frozen in place.
"You damn..."
Ultimately, the more impetuous Yu Fei could not sit still any longer.
A look of anger appeared on his face, and he picked up a wine bottle from the table.
This time, not even the severe look from Yu Zetao could stop him. Once upon a time, Yu Fei was the boss among his peers, and if it wasn’t for the sudden downfall of his family that made him mature a lot, Yu Zetao might not have been able to hold him back just now.
But just as Yu Fei was about to step out, a delicate and slender hand grabbed his sleeve.
Yu Fei turned his head to see Yu Duo pursing her lips and shaking her head slightly. She glanced at the slightly hunched figure of Yu Zetao, her big, bright eyes filled with tears, but she still tried to maintain a smile and said softly:
"Brother, don’t..."
Seeing the plea in his sister’s eyes, Yu Fei was taken aback and instantly calmed down a lot.
At this time, he noticed his father’s slightly trembling hand under the table.
The tacit understanding between siblings made him quickly understand Yu Duo’s intention.
The one being insulted was Yu Zetao, wasn’t he angry?
Having started from scratch, Yu Zetao, who once flourished as a businessman, had seen all kinds of people, and had dealt with many flamboyant second-generation wealthy individuals, including those like He Jiang.
But... he had always interacted with those second-generation wealthy individuals as an elder or a successful person, when had he ever been pointed at and insulted like this?
Yet, he couldn’t act out.
Why couldn’t he act out?
Because he had to ask for favors, and because... he carried the heavy burden of an entire family.
This is the helplessness of a middle-aged man, and the sense of responsibility of a family man.
"To have a gentleman’s rage" might be satisfying, but if it would implicate his family, it was better to be a "coward" ridiculed by others...
Yu Fei had clearly thought of this point just now, but he still couldn’t help but lose control, which could very well render all of Yu Zetao’s previous concessions and compromises meaningless...
However, at this moment, seeing Yu Fei gripping the wine bottle yet remaining rooted in place, He Jiang sneered, saying:
"What, want to hit me or cause trouble? Come on, I’m sitting right here, if you’ve got the guts, come over and hit me, if you dodge I’ll be your son! You idiot, who do you think you’re scaring, I really want to see how many consequences you can handle..."
Yu Fei gritted his teeth silently, but ultimately did not take that step.
"Old Qi..."
Seeing He Jiang still chattering non-stop, Yu Zetao could only turn his pleading gaze towards Qi Kai.
Seeing this, Qi Kai could only muster up the courage to say, "Mr. He, Secretary Ge, um... Old Yu didn’t do it intentionally, you two are bigger persons, please don’t take it to heart with him..."
"Is it your place to say anything?"
He Jiang showed no face to Qi Kai at all, turning his head and sneering, "You old schemer, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to today, you’ve brought Director Gao and Mr. Xu under my name, what else could it be for..."
The Director Gao and Mr. Xu He Jiang mentioned, one was the Director of the Finance Department at Zhao Hang Magic City Branch, and the other was the famous private equity fund manager at Ginkgo Capital in Magic City, both considered "god of wealth" in a certain sense.
Hearing what He Jiang said, Yu Zetao was a bit confused, because in his understanding, this dinner was specially arranged by Qi Kai to help him, but now listening to He Jiang, it seemed there was something more to it.
As for Qi Kai, his expression slightly changed, and he awkwardly laughed, saying, "Mr. He, you’re joking, how dare I do anything under your name, it’s just a coincidence today, I thought everyone hadn’t gathered in a long time, so... haha, Mr. He, I talked too much, here, I’ll punish myself with three glasses, I’ll drink three glasses as a penalty!"
Before He Jiang could say anything else, Qi Kai quickly picked up a glass and downed three shots in a row, his face turning red.
Seeing that he indeed drank three glasses, He Jiang leisurely glanced at Qi Kai, saying indifferently, "Alright, Old Qi, considering we’ve known each other for not a short time, and the few things you helped me with before were quite decent, I can give you and your friend another chance."
"Mr. He is generous, Mr. He is the one, Mr. He, rest assured, I promise, that whatever made everyone unhappy just now will not happen again..."
Qi Kai quickly put on a fawning smile, repeatedly giving a thumbs up.
He Jiang no longer responded, instead turning to chat and laugh with Secretary Ge, as if nothing had happened.
Yu Zetao remained standing there dumbfounded, at a loss as to what to do, when Qi Kai put an arm around his shoulder and led him aside.
Once they reached the resting area of the private room, Qi Kai whispered:
"Old Qi, listen to my advice, Mr. He is really not someone we can afford to offend. There are some grievances you have to bear when you’re dependent on others..."
"Have I not grovelled enough?"
Facing the familiar Qi Kai, Yu Zetao couldn’t help but show a trace of anger, "Old Qi, you know that my stomach isn’t good, when have you ever seen me drink so much, you think I can still stand here because I have good capacity for liquor..."
"I understand, I understand, Old Qi, don’t be angry yet, what I mean is, no matter what, let’s finish this meal peacefully, think about it, Mr. He’s demands aren’t that unreasonable actually..."
