Chapter 1137: Chapter 427: Attending the Banquet
Sister Xiao Yu’s fear was within Zhou Wang’s expectations, but what Zhou Wang didn’t anticipate was her attitude of refusal being even firmer than imagined.
Xu Wenqian also tried persuading her multiple times, but seeing Sister Xiao Yu just shaking her head with tears almost rolling down, Zhou Wang was at a loss when Zhong Huilan signaled to him with her eyes and then pulled Sister Xiao Yu to a side room and closed the door.
After about ten minutes, when the two came out again, the dazed Zhao Yu agreed to stay temporarily, but she still softly voiced her request.
“Mr. Zhou, I heard from Dr. Zhong that there’s a maid’s room here, can I… Linlin and I stay there?”
“Maid’s room?”
Zhou Wang raised an eyebrow, about to say something, when he saw Zhong Huilan giving him a look, so he relaxed his brow and smiled, nodding:
“Of course, you can choose any of the vacant rooms.”
When Xu Wenqian took Linlin and her mother to settle in the room, Zhou Wang finally looked at Zhong Huilan.
“Senior Sister Zhong, what did you say to them?”
“Xiao… Ahem, Mr. Zhou, both you and Wenqian missed the point.”
Zhong Huilan explained: “Zhao Yu has already received such a big favor from you, and now you’re letting her live and eat for free in such a luxurious house, she would definitely feel an emotional burden, so I suggested that you just need a caretaker, and she can do it part-time here…”
“She’s not in good health, how can I let her do these chores?”
Zhou Wang immediately frowned.
“My dear Mr. Zhou, it’s not like she’s actually going to be a caretaker; doesn’t the property offer housekeeping services? Also, you have those two personal health managers, so she basically doesn’t have to do any hard work. It’s just a formality for her to stay.”
Zhong Huilan laughed as she said this, though Zhou Wang wondered if it was his imagination when she mentioned “personal health managers,” did she give him a look of disdain?
But before Zhou Wang could ponder further, Zhong Huilan continued:
“Moreover, the conditions in the maid’s room aren’t bad at all, it also has a separate bath. When Wenqian showed me around earlier, I peeked in, and to be honest, if it’s such a mansion, even staying in the maid’s room would be appealing to me.”
“You don’t have to stay in the maid’s room, if you really want, I can reserve a room for you, and you can move in anytime.”
“Really?”
Zhong Huilan was initially delighted, then with a hint of wary suspicion asked, “Why would you, without any reason, want me to move in? You… you’re not harboring some intentions towards me, are you?”
Seeing Zhong Huilan biting her lips, looking so alluring, if it weren’t for Xiao Wang and Gao Xing being nearby, Zhou Wang really wanted to do something.
But at this moment, Zhou Wang just said seriously: “Senior Sister Zhong, it seems you still have a profound misunderstanding about me, as you get to know me, you’ll find out… I’m really not like what you think.”
I’m even more exaggerated than you think!
After silently adding in his heart, facing Zhong Huilan’s half-believing gaze, Zhou Wang added:
“Jiayi will definitely stay here, I just thought that if you want, you can also come over from time to time, after all, you two sisters have just reunited, and you surely need to bond frequently, I’m just considering your needs…”
“That’s true, if that’s the case… then Mr. Zhou, thank you, I’ll think about it, but are you sure you’re not joking, really willing to reserve a room for me?”
Seeing Zhong Huilan a bit moved, Zhou Wang couldn’t help but smack his lips.
This seemingly bold and charming senior, seems to have a simple side as well.
“Of course it’s true, you and Sister Jiayi are both my dear friends and sisters, treasures in my heart… uh, anyway, this place is always open for you.”
Zhou Wang, speaking with momentum for a moment, quickly shifted the topic before Zhong Huilan noticed anything off.
“By the way, I noticed that Sister Xiao Yu seemed troubled just now, you didn’t just tell her that, right?”
“Hmm…”
Still not quite processing, Zhong Huilan nodded and earnestly said, “If it’s just repaying a favor, it feels a bit forced, I think Zhao Yu really agreed to stay mainly for Linlin’s sake.”
“For Linlin?”
“Yes, you see, from Zhao Yu’s perspective, she has an incurable disease and is running out of time. They’re just orphans and a single mother; if she really… suddenly passes, what will happen to the helpless Linlin?”
Zhong Huilan softly said: “I just hinted at it, but Zhao Yu must have considered this point too, perhaps she also thinks that you’re the only person she might entrust this to, just…”
“Just what?”
Subconsciously nodding, Zhou Wang asked instinctively.
“Just that she doesn’t know in what manner to entrust this blossoming young girl to you.”
Zhong Huilan glanced peculiarly at Zhou Wang, eliciting an exaggerated eye-roll from him.
Why do you people have such filthy minds, I’m just taking Linlin as a sister… well, at least for now.
Without much confidence in himself either, Zhou Wang silently added in his heart.
After chatting with Zhong Huilan, overwhelmed by drowsiness, Zhou Wang slipped back to his room, tucked the [Caroline’s Dream Knit Underwear] under the blanket, and soon drifted into a sweet dream.
…
At three in the afternoon, Zhou Wang opened his eyes.
It was hard not to marvel at the magic of the system’s tools; despite staying up all night, just sleeping for over three hours cuddling the [Underwear], Zhou Wang felt refreshed, even more so than after a full night’s sleep.
