Chapter 67: Skip Classes
Three of the Noble-High cadets could not believe what they were seeing.
One punch, that was all it took to drop Callum to the ground.
Callum was on the ground now with both his hands hands pressed over his nose. Blood was running freely between his fingers and dripping onto the stone steps of the library entrance.
The sound coming out of Callum mouth was somewhere between a groan and a curse, and the sound was muffled by his own palms.
One of the three other Noble-High cadets still standing, a lean boy with a healer’s mark tattooed on the inside of his wrist, rushed forward and crouched beside Callum. He pressed two fingers to Callum’s temple and murmured the closing words of a sealing spell under his breath. The bleeding then slowed before it stopped.
Callum groaned again, louder this time, as the pressure from the spell settled against the bridge of his nose.
Behind them, Wyrmwood cadets were already talking.
"Good. That is exactly what they deserve."
"You do not just walk into someone else’s academy and start acting like the big boye. That is not how things works."
"They came here acting like they owned this place, look at them now."
Another Wyrmwood cadet laughed and shook his head. "That is right. You may have your year one top student, but here?" He pause. "We also have Reynold Starweaver."
A voice from somewhere near the back of the crowd also sounded.
"Don’t take it to heart, Noble-High." The voice was calm, like he was almost bored. "You do not annoy the Starweaver boy and walk away clean.."
Then the same voice scoffed, and the sound of boots on stone followed as whoever it was turned and walked into the library without looking back.
The Noble-High cadets said nothing.
There was nothing to say.
Then one of the Wyrmwood cadets near the entrance raised his hand with a single slow gesture, his middle finger was extended as he held it there for a beat, and walked inside.
Reynold was already in the magic user section of the library.
He moved past the first row of shelves. Then the second. He was halfway down the third when something made him stop.
There was a cadet sitting alone at one of the study tables near the far wall.
He was on Noble-High uniform, dark red with the silver trim at the collar.
Reynold looked at him for a moment.
So this was their top year one student.
The boy has blue hair and he was broad across the shoulders in a way that made him look older than he probably was. His head was down, his eyes moving across the open book in front of him, one hand resting flat on the table beside it.
Reynold was still looking when the blue hair eyes stopped moving.
The blue-haired boy suddenly went still.
His hand on the table did not move but the hairs on the back of his hand stood up, standing straight. The boy stared at his own hand for a second. Then he straightened slowly and turned his head toward Reynold’s side of the room.
Their eyes met.
But neither of them spoke.
Reynold hold the look and took the boy in.
He has blue hair, broad build, a strong aura that Reynold could not name but he could feel clearly.
Then the blue-haired boy looked away, and back down at his book.
Reynold then resumed walking.
By the time Reynold moved out of the section, the blue-haired boy then raised his head again.
He looked at where Reynold was standing before.
Then he looked back at the open book in front of him.
He had gotten what he came for so there was no reason to stay.
He closed the book, stood, and took it back to the shelf he had taken it from. He slid it into place, squared the spine with the others, and then put both hands behind his back and walked out of the library.
....
The four Noble-High cadets saw him the moment he stepped outside.
Callum pushed himself upright from the step where he had been sitting and moved toward him, one hand still cupped loosely near his nose.
"Weston." He stopped in front of the blue-haired boy. "One of Wyrmwood cadet hit me. He hit me straight in the face."
Weston looked at him.
"What did he look like," Weston asked.
"Tall, brown hair that was tied back." Callum’s jaw tightened as he said it. "And the students here said he is the Starweaver boy. The one bonded to three dragons." He paused. "And a Two."
Weston did not say anything for a moment.
As the image came back to him. The boy at the end of the third row. Same brown hair that was tied back, tall. And that aura that had made every hair on his arm stand at attention before he had even looked up.
No wonder, he was the Starweaver boy with three dragons and a Two. So that was why he has that kind of strong aura.
"Can you teach him a lesson for us?" Callum asked.
"No," Weston said.
Callum sighed in defeat.
"We are guests here," Weston said. "We are not going around picking fights with everyone we run into."
One of the other three stepped forward.
"Did you find what you needed?"
Weston paused.
Then, without a word, he muttered a spell and he was gone or more like disappear.
He was now standing two meters to the left of where he was before.
For a moment none of the four Noble-High cadets moved.
Then they all rushed toward him at once.
"You can now do space magic."
"Congratulations!"
Weston said nothing. He was both a shadow mage and a space mage.
Space magic was rare and very uncommon. Any one with space magic can manipulate space, teleporting, creating portals, or warping distances.
Noble-High Academy did not have any book on space magic so it was hard for Weston to unlock his space magic.. So he has to applied to one of the other academies to use their library and he picked Wyrmwood academy.
Strange that Wyrmwood academy which everyone placed at rhe bottom of everyone ranking, the one everyone outside of the north considered the last academy among the other academy would actually have books on space magic.
Weston almost wanted to laugh at that.
....
Back inside the library, Reynold was still sitting.
He has the old language texts spread in front. His father’s letter was in his hand.
One hour, two hours, three hours have now passed and he still has not decode the letter.
Dammit!
He used his left hand to runbed his eyes.
Then he gathered closed the books and folded the letter back, and slipped it into the front pocket of his backpack.
He returned the books to their shelves one at a time, running his thumb across the spines to make sure they were in the right order.
Then he picked up his bag and left.
.....
The next morning Reynold had already decided that he was skipping classes today.
He wanted to go apply for a travel permission, and he hope that the administrative office to approve today. And also he hope if they would let him take one of his dragons.
It was time for him to go visit the old Starweaver mansion.
He sat up and pulled his backpack from beside the bed. He started going through it, removing what he would not need and putting it on the bed. He then grabbed some few stuffs he will need that was not inside the backpack and put them in the backpack.
Once he was done, he changed his trousers first, then his shirt. He then laced his boots.
Then he crouched and reached under the bed and touch a small box.
He pulled it out and set it on the floor in front of him.
Inside of the box was the monthly stipend Wyrmwood academy gave cadets with no parents.
Reynold counted out what he thought he would need for the road and put those in his front pocket. The rest he left in the box and pushed it back under the bed.
He stood, swung the backpack over one shoulder, and left.
He slide his name plate into the slot on the way out, and the door clicked shut behind him.
....
He was passing the practice field when he heard voices and cadets gathering.
He slowed.
Ahead was a group of cadets gathered in a wide ring.
Four figures stood on the raised stone platform at the center of the field.
It was the Noble-High cadets
Two of them were holding the Noble-High Academy flag between them, deep red fabric with the silver crest at the center.
Callum was talking.
"Who in Wyrmwood Academy dares to answer us?" His voice sounded. "Step forward. Or does Wyrmwood not have anyone worth the trouble?"
