Jason shook his head once Varina was done speaking and said:
"That won’t happen. Not while I’m the overlord. All the things you’ve spoken about happened before I even knew what magic was. I didn’t know your world existed when your people were going through all that. But I know you now, and I know what you’ve been going through. I swear to you, Varina; I’ll make sure the witches of Hondura can live without fear. I’m just asking you to trust me."
Varina sucked in a harsh breath, and she grit her teeth! Jason could almost see the intense battle going on within Varina’s mind at that moment. On one hand, Varina wanted to kill every single person in this world. She wanted to make them suffer for a hundred years for what they had done to her people! She wanted them to bleed and cry and die just like her people! But on the other hand, Varina wanted to see the beautiful future that Jason was promising her. A future where the witches could live freely without any persecution was something that Varina had never even dreamt about, but if anyone could do it, then it was Jason. Varina wanted to put her trust in Jason’s promised future.
Jason spoke up kindly.
"You can trust me, Varina. I’ll make sure everything is handled properly."
Varina finally looked into Jason’s eyes, and in them she saw absolute confidence. Jason was completely certain of his ability to make this work, and Varina decided at that moment that she would give him a chance. Varina’s grip on her sword finally loosened, and the sword dropped to the ground as Varina smiled at Jason.
"Okay. I’ll look forward to that future."
"!"
SLASH!
Jason’s eyes widened in shock as a number of things happened all at the same time! Jason’s [Arcane Radar] blared to life as it detected an Arcane Art user close by! Jason saw a Dimensional Tear opening right behind Varina, and before Jason could even react, a blade slashed through the air and cut Varina’s neck! Varina’s head slowly tilted to one side before falling to the ground, and Varina’s body was kicked away by the man who had just killed her.
The man who appeared from the Dimensional Tear had white hair and white eyes, and he wore a white robe over white trousers and shoes. He had a condescending look on his face as he cleaned his white sword on a white cloth, and he spoke with a sneer.
"Disgusting. A woman dares to stain my sword with her blood. Unacceptable. Utterly deplorable. I should’ve demanded she clean my sword before she died! But I shouldn’t be surprised. Women have always done their best to ruin good things throughout history. This is just another example of a woman ruining something more beautiful than she is. A blade crafted from the purest Mythricul ore. Is there any woman whose beauty dares to contest the magnificence of this blade? Very few. Very few indeed! And I must have them all. All beautiful things are to be mine without exception!"
Stab!
Jason appeared right in front of the man and stabbed him straight through the stomach with the [Death’s Mirage]! The man’s eyes widened in shock as he coughed out blood before he fell to the ground and died. Jason glared at the man angrily before his eyes turned towards Varina’s dead body.
’Shit, there’s no way to save her.’
Varina was already dead, so there was no way Jason could heal her using his bishops.
"You pathetic barbarian! You heathen! Fool! Uncultured swine! How dare you lay your dirty hands upon my body!?"
Jason turned to the left in shock, and he saw another Dimensional Tear open before the white-haired man walked out again! Jason looked down to the ground, and he saw that the man he killed was still there! What the hell?
"My esteemed self has deigned you worthy of gazing upon me even though you are naught but a lowly worm, and yet you insult my benevolence with your aggression! Unacceptable! Utterly unforgivable! A woman’s place is far beneath me, but those who would dare to harm my person are even further below!"
Slash!
Another cut from Jason took off the man’s head, and Jason turned to his right in shock as the man appeared from another Dimensional Tear!
"I had great respect for you, Shadow user! Great respect! I believed you would understand me better than most! We are both apex predators! Men who stand at the pinnacle of existence! But you have shown me that you lack the class and propriety necessary to stand as my equal! You have drawn my ire!"
Jason flashed forward and grabbed the man by the shirt before slamming him into the wall! The man didn’t even fight back as he continued talking, and Jason used one of his [Hands of Providence] to shut the man up! Jason looked the man over calmly before he turned to look at the two other men that he had killed. They were all identical in appearance, and Jason wondered if this was some sort of cloning ability. Jason stabbed the man he was holding through the chest and killed him, and another Dimensional Tear opened on the other side of the cave to reveal a fourth man.
"How dare you place your hand over my mouth! To take away my voice and block my expression! That is a sin most unforgivable! My wisdom is a blessing to the world above all else! It is the greatest privilege to bask in the radiance of my knowledge! You will suffer greatly for committing such a grave violation of my rights!"
"Do you ever shut the fuck up?"
Jason had finally gotten tired of the constant ranting from this bastard, and he glared at the man! The white man turned to Jason with a look of utter disbelief on his face!
"You dare to tell me to be quiet! ME!? I possess the only right of expression in this world! I alone possess the right to view all of creation as lesser beings, and therefore, you have no right to order me to do anything! Do you know which species tries to exercise command over those greater than them without reason!? Women! A woman will claim that she possesses the right to authority over her betters! Right now, you are no different from those lowly creatures! Ah, I feel great anger just from the thought of such foolishness! My expectations have been dashed! My ambitions destroyed! My dreams shattered! How dare you insult this great meeting with your actions!"
Jason ignored the mindless ranting and spoke.
"You’re the wielder of the Mind Arcane Art, aren’t you?"
The man turned to Jason sharply and laughed!
"An astute deduction! I am surprised such intelligence can be portrayed by one of your lowly standing! I suppose even the worms upon the ground are capable of simple intellectual thought if you throw enough clues in their direction! Yes, I am the Apostle of Mind, and it is your great honor to be in my presence! Applaud yourself! Clap in praise of your inferiority and exalt your pathetic reasoning!"
The man began to clap mockingly, and Jason ignored him as he spread his senses out to try and figure out if there were any other Arcane Art users around. The portal the Mind Apostle was using to reappear wasn’t the usual Dimensional Tear that Jason knew. Dimensional Tears usually released large waves of mana whenever they were activated, but whenever this portal opened, Jason couldn’t feel any mana at all, so he knew it had to be another Arcane Art.
’Is this one of the powers of the Mind Apostle, or is there someone else he’s working with? If it’s another Arcane Art, then it has to be the Space Arcane Art or maybe the Reality Arcane Art?’
Jason scanned around a few times, but he couldn’t find anything using his radar, and Jason realised that the hidden Arcane Arts user was probably too far away for him to sense! Jason decided to simply wait for the Mind Apostle to finish his stupid rant. The Mind Apostle spoke for more than two straight minutes about how Jason figuring out his identity was an amazing achievement for such a lowly creature, and after a while, he finally turned to Jason and said.
"I hope you’re paying attention!"
"Not at all. I’m thinking of ways to kill you."
