Chapter 1031: There’s a Bromance
"No," Di Mingzhe said with a light smile, "don’t talk like that, we’re all friends here. Since we are friends, there’s no need for such formality."
Alvin nodded, clearly pleased, and bluntly said, "In that case, I’ll still toast individually. This cup is to honor the Vice President, no objections, Commander?"
"I’m easygoing," Di Mingchen laughed, expressing a friendly attitude as well.
"Good," Alvin agreed heartily, lifting his glass, and said forthrightly, "To friends."
"To friends," Di Mingzhe also curved his lips up, straightforwardly downing a large cup of red wine without a word.
Alvin was taken aback, then burst into laughter, giving a thumbs-up, "Your Excellency has a great capacity for alcohol."
"You flatter me," Di Mingzhe nodded slightly, teasingly.
Alvin was in high spirits, filled another glass, stood up, and raised it to Di Mingchen, "To the Empire’s Commander-in-Chief, I’ve long admired your reputation."
"It’s not as exaggerated as you say," Di Mingchen replied with a smile, standing up as well, "As my brother said, we’re all friends here. A friend of Nangong Jin is naturally also our friend, so don’t stand on ceremony. Since you’re here, enjoy yourself for a few days before leaving."
"That’s exactly what I intended," Alvin said with a smile, "I shall gratefully accept. However, I don’t have many friends in the Empire, so I hope the three young masters will keep me company and have a good time together."
"Certainly," Di Mingchen nodded, raising his glass, "To friends."
"To friends," Alvin laughed heartily, draining his glass cheerfully.
Di Mingchen also tilted his head back and emptied his glass in one gulp.
"Good," Alvin clapped his hands, "I’m so happy. Come on, Senior Brother, let’s drink a few more."
"A few? That’s not nearly enough," Nangong Jin sneered, lifting the corner of his mouth, "It’s been a long time, so if we’re going to drink, let’s drink to our heart’s content."
Alvin was startled, then smiled brilliantly, "Alright, those are your words."
Nangong Jin also laughed, a mischievous gleam in his smile, "Yes, those are my words."
Then the two of them began to drink, doing so with great gusto, and even pulling the three Di brothers into their drinking.
The Gu Family and Nangong Family naturally didn’t fall behind, and they even brought Shi Mo into the mix. Everyone at the table was drinking except for Gu Qibao, who was sneakily watching the fun from the sidelines.
She found that Alvin was quite easy to get along with, at least on the surface.
But she always felt that there was something indescribable going on between Alvin, the three Di brothers, and Nangong Jin, observing the way they were giving each other looks, it almost seemed as if they had taken a liking to each other.
Gu Qibao shivered, unable to help but poke Di Mingjue, "Husband, you guys are really enthusiastic about this Alvin."
"Mhm," Di Mingjue nodded lightly, leaning in close to her ear, "Big brother might have some ideas, this Alvin is a royal from B Country, and a person recommended by Nangong Jin should be trustworthy."
Gu Qibao blinked, somewhat confused.
But then it suddenly dawned on her; the last time Di Mingjue talked to her about the international athletic competition, it also involved Di Mingzhe and Di Xiaxia.
He said that he was worried Dan Youguo wouldn’t let things rest easily.
Although she felt a bit foolish, upon further thought it made sense; if Di Mingjue and Di Xiaxia both won championships, then the Di Family’s prestige within the Empire would certainly be at its peak, making it unlikely that Dan Youguo would give up so easily.
Ultimately, it all boiled down to Dan Youguo’s unwillingness to accept that Di Mingzhe had not become his son-in-law.
Someone like him must be intensely passionate about power. Regardless of what Dan Youguo was thinking internally, they needed to be prepared.
In case Dan Youguo caught them off guard.
Furthermore, to put it bluntly, once the athletics competition was over, if Dan Youguo remained in a high position, the entire country would still be under his control.
Picking on the Di Family then would actually be an easy task, wouldn’t it?
After all, no matter how powerful the Di Family was, they were still commoners, without as much power as Dan Youguo.
