Chapter 1013: The effective way -2
Half a Day Later - Vicinity of the Space Gate on Planet R-3
BOOM!
"There! No... over there!!"
"Light the torches! Fire the shots!!"
"Damn it...!!"
Just like the first time the True Dawn Army appeared, they suddenly found their comrades falling one after the other with various injuries. Instantly, they realized the race of demi-cats had returned. They quickly formed a defensive formation, standing back-to-back and reinforcing the agreed defensive structures. But today's attack was unlike those before.
"They're lying! It's impossible that General Elizabeth was killed by those wretched locals!!" one of the officers under Elizabeth shouted angrily, his eyes brimming with tears. This man, a member of the Trent family, had been extremely close to Elizabeth, even back when she was the Empress of the Sacred Tree.
"Damn it, James, snap out of it and focus on the battle at hand!!" another officer shouted, his frustration evident.
Today's wave was different for two reasons. The first was that a massive woman had appeared and announced General Elizabeth's death. Some believed her, while others didn't. Regardless, it caused chaos among the ranks. The second reason was the sheer number of attackers- several times more than any previous assault.
Although they couldn't see all the attackers due to their stealth tactics, by estimating the number of casualties and the areas being attacked simultaneously, there had to be at least a thousand of them!
"Hahaha!" The big woman, Jata, smashed a soldier's head with her war hammer. BAM! She then proclaimed loudly, "A bunch of fools trying to take over our planet? You'll all die, just as we killed your general and severed her head!" She then darted toward the forest.
"Stop!!" the man called James yelled, trying to run after Jata. "Come with me!"
"My team, follow me! We're heading to the gate!"
"Wait, I need you here! We won't hold out on our own!"
"Shut up. I must find the general. Even if it's just her body, I must bring her back!!"
"..." From the shadows of the forest, Jata chuckled darkly. Seeing nearly seven officers issuing conflicting orders, each commanding independently, was precisely what she wanted. She scanned the soldiers, and her grin widened.
The soldiers were in a pitiful state, receiving contradictory orders while being attacked from unseen angles. Lacking clear commands, some began acting on their own, attacking wildly out of sheer panic, often hitting their allies instead.
This was the trap every organized army fell into when their leader was killed!
The only thing that dampened Jata's satisfaction was the realization that the shadow prowlers weren't the only ones present. Something darker and more sinister moved through the battlefield's shadows- the ones known as the Shadow Swords.
These individuals could locate the fighters of the Sad Night Cats, but the opposite was impossible. They would appear, stab one of the demi-cats, and leave them screaming, drawing the attention of the rest of the golden-armored soldiers, who would gather around and kill them.
The only slightly reassuring fact about the presence of these so-called Shadow Swords was that their numbers were small and there wasn't a single combat emperor among them. Otherwise, a true catastrophe would have befallen them!
At that moment, a shout came from a figure who appeared among the officers. It was a shadow sword: "Enough! All of you! Do you think you are free now that your general isn't here? Have you forgotten your primary mission assigned to you by His Excellency, Robin Burton himself?"
"What mission? What can we do without the general?" one of the officers shouted in anger.
"Secure the perimeter of the space portal until it is rebuilt!" Sef al-Zal shouted at the officers, then looked back and yelled loudly at the soldiers: "Everyone, don't lose yourself to your thoughts, these are His Excellency's orders to youe: Secure the perimeter of the space portal until it is rebuilt!!"
That simple sentence was like a passcode that triggered something in the soldiers' minds.
"Secure the perimeter of the space portal until it is rebuilt!"
"Secure the perimeter of the space portal until it is rebuilt!"
The soldiers began to chant loudly, having finally found a purpose. Even without orders from the officers, they focused on the orders of their Emperor, the absolute orders from above can not be dified!!
Boom Boom
"Do you see that? The soldiers have better instincts than you!" one of the officers pointed below and shouted to his comrades with regret, then, whoosh, he dove down holding his weapon and chanting, "Secure the perimeter of the space portal until it is rebuilt!"
Crack Officer James clenched his hands tightly, then finally sighed and followed them, "I shall stay until complete the mission first, but then don't stop me!"
Then the next officer followed, then the next, each leading their soldiers toward one of the gaps in the incomplete formations. Three officers took their soldiers to surround the Rune Masters and divine blacksmiths to protect them.
In their minds, one task repeated on their lips, and above them were expert officers giving them precise orders. The defensive forces quickly regained their stability, and the formations and ambushes they set for the demi-cats began to bear fruit. Every few seconds, one of them would be thrown to the ground, lifeless.
"Hmm?" Jata furrowed her thick brows. "...This might turn to be a little bad."
Who is that Excellency who made the soldiers forget their dire position and the death of their general, and raised their morale to this peak even in his absence? When the grandmother died all those years ago, they didn't have anyone who could gather the race around him and this made them split and go through centuries of suffering.
And after Zanox's disappearance, his soldiers couldn't use his words to bring them together, they start paniking and every oficer started excuting what he sees fit, despite Marsial Zanox supposedly being still alive and only gone to war on another planet!
The power over people's hearts, the cheer authority that makes one present even if he is not there... Now, that's a ruler!
Whoosh Whoosh
"Hmm?" At this moment, something flew out from the protective circle of the rune masters, a glowing orb towards the sky. It was slow and shining, very captivating to the eye. "What is
this...?"
The moment that orb reached a certain height, it exploded Pssshhhhh-the explosion didn't harm anyone, but it was like a bomb of light around the misty forest on a hot summer day.
"No!!" When Jata saw this, she screamed loudly, then looked down.
The shadows of her followers were clearly visible.
"Kill the damn intruders!!"
Slash Slash
he glowing orb took 10 seconds to lose its brilliance and extinguish.
During those ten seconds, more than 80 demi-cats were killed!
"Who launched that orb?" one of the officers responsible for protecting the rune masters looked inside the protective circle.
"I-I did, sir," a young man raised his hand. He didn't look older than 18. He was one of the Major Heavenly Law of Light users who came to cut and then weld the space portal!
"Haha, well done, do it again! All light users, do it too!"
