Chapter 1196 - 691: Is There a Traitor?_2
In the distance, Shadow’s expression was somewhat grave.
When that Day Elf disappeared just now, he didn’t sense any traces of spatial fluctuation.
Instead, he faintly sensed a hint of the Shadow Plane’s aura.
Did this "Day Elf" escape through the Shadow Plane?
If that’s true, then the one making a move here is definitely not a real Day Elf.
In the Elf Clan, the Extraordinary Professionals are mostly mages and rangers.
Elf Rangers being able to master Shadow Power is not unusual, but that doesn’t include Day Elves.
Because the Sun Power that Day Elves wield conflicts with Shadow Power and is difficult to merge together.
After all, not everyone has the kind of talent that Shadow possesses.
After obtaining the Sun Elf Blood specialty, Shadow specifically studied the situation of Day Elves.
So, this Day Elf is definitely someone in disguise.
Was it just to incite conflict between the Dwarf Royal Court and the Elf Kingdom?
Or perhaps just to divert the Dwarf Royal Court’s attention?
Shadow speculated internally, thought for a moment, and then prepared to leave.
Tonight, since such a big incident occurred in Lonely Mountain City, surely all kinds of investigations will be more rigorous.
Although Shadow was confident he could evade them, it would be troublesome if the avatar in the Iron Hammer Workshop was discovered.
He’s still counting on using the identity of the Dwarf "Ris" to mix into the Heart of Molten Fire?
No mistakes can be made at this time.
He wasn’t sure what Tomun and Nidir, out of concern for him, might do.
Before leaving, Shadow once again observed the somewhat strange Legendary Priest among the ruins, then his figure vanished into the darkness.
...
In the ruins,
Kelleb was using Divine Arts to heal his injuries, in a rather foul mood.
Originally, he just wanted to stroll around Lonely Mountain City and revisit the tavern he often visited before.
As a result, halfway through, he was suddenly attacked by that Legendary Day Elf.
Fortunately, he was no longer the Little Bishop who traveled to Lonely Mountain City in the past.
He had already broken through to Legend, becoming one of the few standing at the pinnacle of the Gaia World.
Even within the War God Church, he was absolutely among the top ranks.
However, he hadn’t been a Legend for long, so the outside world didn’t know much about Kelleb.
This time, as a representative of the War God Church, he hadn’t actively informed the other party about this matter.
Kelleb also treated this matter as his trump card, not even telling his friend Richie who invited him to Lonely Mountain City.
Facts proved that his preparation was correct.
During the confrontation with that Legendary Day Elf, he could clearly feel the other’s murderous intent.
Moreover, the other’s strength was clearly stronger than his.
If he had made more preparations or had one more ally, Kelleb might not have had to wait for the Dwarf Clan’s legends to arrive.
The Day Elf didn’t know he had reached Legend status, which is why he barely managed to hold on.
Even so, Kelleb sustained considerable injuries.
But for Kelleb, the injuries were less troublesome than the problems in front of him.
Because by using Divine Arts to conceal his Legendary strength, the consequences of exposure would follow.
As a bishop of the War God Church, a Legendary Priest, concealing his strength when coming to Lonely Mountain City...
It seemed in no way a good thing for Lonely Mountain City.
And with the incident involving the Legendary Day Elf, the dwarves inevitably began to question Kelleb’s motives.
So when facing the doubtful gazes of the dwarf legends, Kelleb could only raise his hand to indicate he had no other intentions.
At that moment, Kelleb saw his friend Richie come running, out of breath.
"Under the crown of Quasimodo, under the crown of Cooper, under the crown of Igor, under the crown of Davenport."
"This is Kelleb from the War God Church, my friend."
"He represents the War God Church, intending to cooperate with the Royal Court and the temple."
"It’s unexpected that he was attacked by that Day Elf, I urge your eminences to bring that shameless long-eared one to justice!"
These dwarf legends all knew Richie.
As a minister in the Royal Court, Richie had frequent interactions with these legends.
From what he said, it was to vouch for this legendary bishop of the War God Church before him.
If Kelleb truly had issues, it would become Richie’s responsibility.
Given this, the legends didn’t linger.
They were in a hurry to track the Day Elf’s whereabouts.
Richie slightly bowed, and after the legends had left, he calmly looked at Kelleb.
Kelleb felt a bit awkward.
Strictly speaking, he had put his friend in a difficult position.
But Richie still came to his aid.
Good brother, true loyalty!
Just as Kelleb wanted to express thanks, Richie suddenly leaped up and punched Kelleb hard.
"Kelleb, you damned scoundrel."
"You should go to hell and make friends with those damned devils!"
Richie thumped Kelleb repeatedly, as if venting his anger.
And Kelleb only stepped back a few paces without showing any intention to retaliate or stop him.
He knew he had really put Richie in a tough spot this time.
Representing the War God Church in establishing contact with the Dwarf Kingdom, Richie was the intermediary.
He had also concealed that he had become a Legend, no wonder the other was upset.
Though he was a priest and not particularly strong physically,
Taking a few hits from Richie, who was merely at the Golden Rank, posed no problem.
Once Richie had vented his anger, Kelleb curiously asked:
"Since you knew I didn’t tell you, why did you still cover for me just now?"
Richie, catching his breath, grumpily rubbed his fists and said;
"What else could I do?"
"If I could, I’d never want to deal with you again, you rascal."
"But since I was the one who invited you over, I can’t deny my responsibility."
"Blaming you aside, I’m more curious about why that Day Elf chose you as a target?"
Upon hearing Richie speak of the main issue, Kelleb’s expression became serious, and he spoke solemnly:
"What do you mean?"
"You represent the War God Church, having only been in Lonely Mountain City for a few days."
"How did you coincidentally encounter the Day Elf?"
Richie shook his head, speaking ambiguously:
"The entire kingdom barely knew of your coming for negotiations with the Royal Court and the temple."
"Surely it wasn’t by chance that that Day Elf saw you the day you entered the city?"
Pausing here, Richie looked at Kelleb and said:
"In fact, I’m rather thankful you’ve reached Legend status."
"Without Legendary strength, under that Day Elf’s attack, you would’ve surely perished."
"Compared to your hidden strength, your death would be even more troublesome."
"Alright then."
Kelleb sighed, reluctantly shaking his head.
He knew well that his dwarf friend was sharper and more astute than ordinary dwarves.
"Do you mean to imply there’s a traitor among the high ranks of the Royal Court or the temple?"
Kelleb pondered and asked Richie.
"It seems like that’s the case."
Richie stated with a gloomy face, his mood quite poor.
"So..."
Richie said sharply, pointing at Kelleb:
"Since you’re involved, you have to help me. This is the trouble we both need to solve now!"
"What?"
Kelleb was taken aback, not quite understanding at first.
"If you know I didn’t tell you, why did you even help cover for me just now?"
Richie said grumblingly as he caught his breath.
"To be honest, I have to."
"Otherwise, I would never want to deal with a jerk like you again!"
"Even though this incident has caused such a big mess, the most critical thing is that I got dragged into this because of you."
"Sure, if this matter isn’t resolved and the traitor isn’t found, no one in the Royal Court will feel easy.
"Nor would you want the cooperation between the War God Church, the Dwarf Royal Court, and the temple to be delayed, would you?"
"Richie, that’s not fair of you!"
In the face of Richie’s open threats, Kelleb had no choice but to give in reluctantly.
