Chapter 1155: Chapter 1153: Casting the Bait
Accelerating away, both above and beneath the boat was silent.
Although Lann didn’t have control over the currents, Delanlay was obviously very familiar with this boat. Rachel only offered a bit of help at first, then he took full command, focusing on steering.
Fu Qian wasn’t surprised by this seriousness.
In any case, catching up to see the mermaid’s situation was something he undoubtedly couldn’t refuse.
While faint singing could be heard, grasping this miraculous turn of events proved too difficult for Rachel, who fell momentarily silent.
As for the fishmen in the sea, it seemed they had finally learned to yield to vehicles.
It gives the feeling that the world has returned to peace and tranquility!
And as the creator of this scene, Fu Qian, fully hands-off, felt greatly relieved for a moment.
"Is it the one we captured before?"
At the end of the silence, it was Rachel who couldn’t hold back, voicing to satisfy her own curiosity.
Because she left at the first opportunity, she obviously didn’t see the mermaid climbing the tree and wasn’t sure if it had entered the Sea of Ashes.
"Yes."
Delanlay, who was serious about sailing, snorted coldly, his resentment audible.
He clearly wasn’t optimistic about the mermaid’s fate.
And in the current situation, his group of former colleagues could not be disconnected from the matter.
"So you want to kill everyone because of this?"
Rachel didn’t feel guilty about such a thing and immediately snorted back.
"Besides, when Lann arranged for you to deal with prey before, I remember you didn’t go easy, did you?"
"How else do I earn trust..."
This clearly brought up unpleasant memories for Delanlay. After a moment of silence, he said in a subdued voice, sounding more like he was convincing himself.
"And what I was dealing with were just as vicious hunters. Mermaids not only belong to intelligent humanoid life but are also naturally friendly. It’s different."
"Humanoid life... but you’re ready to kill a group of actual humans at once?"
Rachel continued to sneer.
"What if someone was doing it to save lives? Seems more reasonable to gather some evidence and directly report to the Night Watchman, right?"
"...As the incidents of fishmen attacks have increased, the Night Watchman’s stance on mermaids has not been so firm for a long time."
Delanlay hesitated slightly before explaining his concerns.
"So you dislike them for not being extreme enough? Or feel mermaids shouldn’t be implicated? To be honest, even someone as unfamiliar with the ocean as I am finds it hard to believe that there’s no connection between the two!"
In a dilemma, one either runs out of words or talks excessively.
Miss Rachel seemed to want to vent her resentment fiercely, her words aggressive and confrontational.
"I do not deny it, but the aggression of fishmen has obviously been exaggerated. From what I know, they are not nearly as ferocious as the ones we’ve encountered!"
As a staunch Friend of Nature, Delanlay was clearly not easily rebutted.
"That much of a difference?"
However, just as the two were engaged in verbal sparring, Fu Qian, who had muted his mic to listen to the songs, suddenly interjected.
"At least they won’t be more aggressive than these guys are now."
Interrupted so suddenly, Delanlay immediately lost momentum.
Although he couldn’t grasp the terrifying man’s purpose, the mournful song still prompted him to try and awaken a shred of humanity in Fu Qian.
"The way the Sirens describe some events, there are definitely elements of exaggeration, I’m very sure..."
Did the Fishmen who left here resemble those who have been soothed afterwards?
The probability of a special existence seems to have increased, doesn’t it?
Fu Qian ignored Delanlay’s accusations against some unscrupulous companies and extracted the content he cared about, feeling very satisfied.
Who says debates are meaningless? Haven’t there been gains?
Of course, the most delightful thing is that this is not the only gain.
Now, the Mermaid’s singing has already stopped.
Fu Qian stood up quite naturally, and Delanlay instantly held his breath.
He, of course, also noticed this immediately, and he remembered clearly what the other party had said.
"Singing continuously always requires rest periods, and she swims very fast; we have been getting further away all along."
Although there had been displays of recklessness before, Delanlay was obviously not yet ready to face death with equanimity, and amidst his worry, he immediately found two explanations.
The brain circuits of the person before him were really beyond any normal reasoning—he had no doubt that the other party would chat while crushing his own head.
"That makes sense, even concerts have intermissions!"
However, to his surprise, the next moment the other party naturally agreed with his view.
...
The harvest came even more timely than expected.
Watching the direction in which the Mermaid’s voice had last faded, Fu Qian was unconcerned with the unease in Delanlay’s heart.
The distance had been increasing all this time—it was intentionally done by Fu Qian, or else he would’ve been violently urging them forward long ago.
Being the bait cast out, as long as he could track in real-time, it was fine; getting too close would actually scare away the fish.
As for the idea of an intermission, it wasn’t nonsensical after all—indeed, the little Mermaid had taken a rest just before.
But after only a dozen seconds, it hastily started singing again, filled with fear of ticket tearing.
Fu Qian stood up at this moment because just now, at that instant, the Thread of Concern had made a leap without a path, pointing at a vastly different angle.
Indeed low-key, no wonder she has evaded Vivian for so many years.
And after quietly waiting for half a minute, confirming that the Thread of Concern was almost still, Fu Qian finally let out a satisfied sigh.
The next instant, under Delanlay’s gaze, who did not dare to breathe heavily, that Death God-like figure vanished into thin air.
He’s gone, just like that?
Moments later, after repeatedly confirming that there was no trace of that mysterious figure, Delanlay uncontrollably felt a great sense of relief.
"...What on earth is that Mermaid doing?"
At this moment, Rachel, similarly astonished, asked subconsciously in the face of this abrupt loss of target.
Regrettably, Delanlay, who had a narrow escape, was clearly unable to answer this question.
"I’ll step out for a moment."
Fortunately, in the next instant, Rachel’s body shook oddly, she did not continue to inquire, and directly went outside.
...
So, this is the place, huh? It doesn’t look much like where a reclusive expert would dwell.
Not too much later, as Fu Qian observed the sea beyond the boundary, he silently commented.
The endpoint of the Thread of Concern was this place right here.
Within this not-so-large fragment, not only was it dimly lit, but even the currents were visibly turbid, filled with a somber and deathly aura.
"Is the gentleman at home today?"
With a sigh, Fu Qian deactivated Blood Conquest and stepped into this special location.
