The crowd was shocked beyond belief. How could the heavily guarded ancient castle of the Luo Family be easily breached? Luo Zisheng glanced at his father, noticing his calm smile, and immediately understood.
After scolding the housekeeper, Roger turned to Lin Beichen: "Mr. Lin, I'm truly sorry. My attendants are too incompetent. Let's continue discussing the main issue, shall we?"
He narrowed his eyes, staring at Lin Beichen: "You can take us away if you like, but please show an arrest warrant. Otherwise, I have reason to suspect that you're retaliating for my son's past indiscretions."
Lin Beichen frowned, sensing something amiss. Just as he was about to make a phone call to verify procedures, his phone suddenly rang. He answered and his face changed drastically: "What? Fang Jerry died of a heart attack?"
He shouted angrily: "Who's being fooled here? Fang Jerry was as strong as an ox, how could he suddenly have a heart attack? There's definitely fishy business involved!"
After hanging up the phone, Lin Beichen's expression turned as dark as water, realizing that perhaps this was all part of a carefully orchestrated trap, and he was right in the middle of it.
By the end, he couldn't help but burst into laughter, his arrogant demeanor drawing attention.
He seemed convinced that Lin Beichen was out of options against him.
However, Lin Beichen's expression suddenly darkened. He took a swift step forward, appearing in front of Roger, and reached out to tightly grip Roger's throat.
Roger was utterly stunned, but Lin Beichen spoke coolly: "You should be thankful I'm a law-abiding man. Otherwise, judging by your current behavior, you'd have died countless times already."
The cause of Fang Jerry's death was finally determined to be an unknown toxin. A syringe containing the toxin was found at the scene.
Strangely, no fingerprints were found on the syringe, and all surveillance footage from that time had vanished.
These events linked together were clearly not simple.
However, these were no longer Lin Beichen and the others' concern. The case was handed over to colleagues in Port City for handling.
Lin Beichen was not dissatisfied with this, as it wasn't his mission; he just happened to encounter it and decided to intervene.
Now, he embraced leisure, spending the next few days traveling around with Xia Luyao and others, visiting famous sights and landmarks.
On this day, Lin Beichen had just returned from hiking when he received a call from Zheng Qian, inviting him to dinner to express gratitude.
Lin Beichen guessed it might be that the compensation fee from Shadow Stream Media had arrived, so he gladly accepted.
After days of hiking and swimming, he was indeed a bit tired of it, and relaxing by admiring a beauty was unquestionably nice.
Love Restaurant was the most famous upscale chain restaurant in the North District of Hong Kong.
The costs here were extremely high, known for rare and exquisite dishes, typical of a bourgeois restaurant.
For an average person to dine here just to show off, it would cost at least close to a thousand bucks.
And if one wanted to eat their fill, the expense was ridiculously high, with the thought of spending less than twenty thousand bucks being out of question.
After handing his car to the valet, Lin Beichen walked in. He glanced around and spotted Zheng Qian sitting by the window.
At this moment, Zheng Qian wore a white shirt on top and jeans on the bottom. Though a simple outfit, it looked extraordinarily appealing on her.
She was like a budding flower in early spring—fresh and tender, yet carrying an unexplainable seductive glow that drew the gaze of many in the restaurant.
"Brother Lin, over here!" Zheng Qian stood up and called from a distance, her face beaming with a delighted smile.
Her joyful appearance made several men beside her feel a tad envious, casting Lin Beichen looks filled with admiration and jealousy.
Yet, these looks meant nothing to Lin Beichen. He walked straight to Zheng Qian, sat down smiling and said: "Has the money arrived?"
"That guy hasn't bothered you anymore, right?" he asked with concern.
Zheng Qian shook her head and said: "No, thanks to Brother Lin's help. Otherwise, forget the money; even our little family shop would be in trouble."
Stopping here, she paused, then solemnly said to Lin Beichen: "So, after discussing it with my dad, the money should go to you instead."
She took out a bank card from her pocket, cautiously placing it in front of Lin Beichen as if afraid the slightest force might shatter it.
Seeing her demeanor, Lin Beichen felt a little amused and helpless. He firmly pushed the card back to Zheng Qian and said: "This is your compensation; how can I take it?"
Noticing Zheng Qian still intending to persuade, Lin Beichen's expression turned serious: "Just keep it; I don't lack funds."
"Moreover, given the nature of my job, rashly accepting this money could lead to trouble. You wouldn't want to visit me in jail, would you?" he said half-jokingly.
What job nature?,
Question marks filled Zheng Qian's mind, but since Lin Beichen said so, she didn't press further.
While putting away the card, she told Lin Beichen: "Brother Lin, if you ever need funds, just let me know; I'll keep this for you."
Lin Beichen nodded and said no more, calling a waiter to order a few dishes.
Yet when those dishes arrived at the table, he couldn't help but feel a bit amused.
The plates were as large as basins one after another, while the food inside was pathetically small, only the size of a pinky. This made him twitch his mouth twice, inwardly cursing the restaurant's shrewd business tactics.
