Chapter 1097 - 1099 Really Don’t Care?_1
Jiang Yichun was already standing next to Bai Ruozhu, so Bai Ruozhu wasn’t far from Jiao Bingqin. She couldn’t help but snidely think to herself, wasn’t Jiao Bingqin trying to use this to prove her place in Jiang Yichun’s heart, and then to agitate her, his legal wife?
Because of Jiao Bingqin’s matter, Jiang Yichun was already extremely exasperated. Seeing this woman made him unbearably irritated, so how could he dare to annoy her with a principled mistake now? Moreover, he had never liked the touch of strangers, let alone that of a woman.
He swiftly stepped aside, completely ignoring Jiao Bingqin as she fell, watching as she was about to make intimate contact with the ground!
In the blink of an eye, it was still Bai Ruozhu who reached out to grab her. She really wanted to see Jiao Bingqin’s tragic fall, and she wasn’t a saint who would sympathize with Jiao Bingqin, but after all, this woman was arranged to be here by the Emperor, and it was better to avoid trouble.
With this pull, Jiao Bingqin leaned against Bai Ruozhu. Standing beside her, Lin Ping’er asked, "Why did she suddenly fall? What happened to her?"
She spoke as if she was concerned about Jiao Bingqin, but her tone was tinged with sarcasm and even some anger—the Bai Family had all seen Jiao Bingqin falling towards Jiang Yichun.
The others also stared at Jiao Bingqin, waiting to see her reaction after her scheme had failed.
However, Bai Ruozhu furrowed her brows; Jiao Bingqin was quite heavy leaning against her. She hurriedly checked Jiao Bingqin’s pulse and discovered that she had indeed fainted!
"She really passed out, with both Qi and blood deficiencies," Bai Ruozhu said aloud.
The Bai Family’s complexion changed, as at the end of the day, they were all honest people. Hearing that Jiao Bingqin had truly passed out, they couldn’t bear to say much more.
Bai Ruozhu inspected her further and found the girl was in her menstrual period, and with heavy bleeding came weakness; coupled with her deep contemplation and the fatigue from the journey, she had really fainted.
But what a timely fainting it was!
"Have two nannies quickly carry Miss Jiao back to the yard to rest. I’ll prescribe her some medicine to strengthen her body," Bai Ruozhu ordered.
Soon, the servants carried Jiao Bingqin away, and then Lin Ping’er asked, "Did she truly faint? Didn’t she look just fine earlier?"
"Her body is weak, and she’s been overthinking. She hasn’t been eating well, how could she not faint?" Bai Ruozhu said before pausing and then adding, "It’s probably also because she’s worried about her father’s wrongful case, so she’s too troubled to eat or drink properly."
Jiang Yichun knew medical skills himself, so naturally, he understood the situation Bai Ruozhu described. He didn’t feel guilty, just slightly embarrassed.
Bai Ruozhu sneaked a glance at him and started to ponder in her mind. If she hadn’t caught Jiao Bingqin just now, the fall would have been quite severe for Jiao Bingqin—a swollen nose and a bruised face would be the least of her worries. She likely could have lost two front teeth, considering people are quite heavy when they faint and fall down without consciousness.
Then, when Jiang Yichun discovered that the girl had truly fainted, he might feel somewhat guilty, right?
If all of this wasn’t a coincidence, then this Miss Jiao was indeed very clever.
Not long after being taken away, Jiao Bingqin woke up. After drinking the decoction sent by the maids, she wanted to go thank Bai Ruozhu but was immediately stopped by Xianshi, the maid arranged for her. She said, "Miss Jiao, you are so ill; don’t run around anymore. Our Miss has instructed that you must rest in bed, and we will send your meals to you for the next few days, so you don’t have to tire yourself out going back and forth."
Jiao Bingqin grinded her teeth in frustration. Wasn’t it because she was assigned to this godforsaken place that she had to "travel back and forth"?
It didn’t take long for Bai Ruozhu to receive the message from the servant and learned about Jiao Bingqin’s condition after she woke up. A cold smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. Coming to express gratitude? Wasn’t it just an excuse to act vulnerable in front her Jiang Yichun?
Unfortunately, Jiao Bingqin didn’t understand Jiang Yichun at all. He didn’t have the inclination to pity and cherish women, and he was most repulsed by fragile women, something Bai Ruozhu was very clear about.
At this moment, Jiang Yichun walked into the room. He went over and took Bai Ruozhu’s hand, whispering, "This time you should be mollified, right? You saw how I dodged even when others threw themselves at me, what else are you worried about?"
Bai Ruozhu gave him a sidelong glance, "That’s because there were many people around. Who knows what you would have done if we were alone? Besides, I’m not worried at all. You’re free to hug and embrace whoever you want."
Jiang Yichun was taken aback and said somewhat displeased, "If I were to embrace another woman, would you truly not care?"
"Don’t try to provoke me with that childish trick. It’s boring!" Bai Ruozhu snorted coldly.
Jiang Yichun suddenly laughed. Yes, why was he getting irritated with her? From the very first day he met her, he knew full well that she was a little tigress. Things other women didn’t dare do, she dared to. When other women were bullied, they would secretly shed tears, but she would hide in back alleys plotting against people or hiring thugs to harm them. Other women would be scared to death at the sight of a killer, yet she dared to risk her life to save him...
Memories of the past surfaced in his mind, warming his heart. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and said, "I will visit my master tomorrow."
Bai Ruozhu’s heart tightened, and she quickly turned to look into his eyes. She wanted to persuade him not to go, but not going would seem suspicious. Yet, if he went, could there be danger waiting for him?
As she revealed a worried look, a smile hid in the depths of his eyes. He suddenly leaned down and captured her lips in a gentle kiss, the longing of these days transforming into a fine rain, trickling down bit by bit...
...
The next day before dawn, Jiang Yichun went off to the morning court, and Bai Ruozhu was awakened by her son only after it was fully light. She rubbed her sore lower back, cursing his vigor in her heart, as if he hadn’t eaten meat in three months!
No, that simile was entirely inappropriate. Was she meat?
Struggling to get up, she dressed her son, who was now wrapped in a little jacket due to the cold, making Little Dengdeng look even rounder and cuter. With a face shape inherited from Bai Ruozhu, although chubby, his little chin was pointed and quite attractive, and his chubby cheeks only added to his cuteness.
His large, bright eyes would narrow into slits when he laughed, captivating anyone who saw them. Everyone in the household loved Little Dengdeng; they all said the young master’s smile was the most beautiful, and a child who loved to smile was the brightest.
Seeing that mother and son were awake, Nanny Zhang hurriedly brought warm cow’s milk for Little Dengdeng to drink. Dengdeng had a good appetite and guzzled it down. Seeing her son like this, Bai Ruozhu suddenly felt an appetite as well and ordered the maids to bring breakfast.
"Miss, the residence has received a letter from Miss Tu Ying of Beiyu City. The lady ordered it to be delivered to you immediately," Xianhua, the maid, said cheerfully as she came in with a letter.
Xianhua and Xianshi were new maids bought by the Bai Residence after they moved to the Capital City. Naming them gave Bai Ruozhu a headache, so she took a shortcut and chose a generic character to be followed by names of arts such as music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. As for the other servants, some were promoted within, while others, upon proving trustworthy, were assigned to the shop or even selected by Guizhi to be trained as beauticians.
Bai Ruozhu’s eyes twinkled with mirth as she received the letter. She had been thinking about Tu Ying just a few days ago, and now Tu Ying’s letter had arrived—they really had a connection. But when she opened the letter, the smile on her face instantly darkened...
