Chapter 1094 - 1096: Princess Huilan Picks a Quarrel Again_1
Is... Is this really my mother? Leng Wanhua blinked her eyes repeatedly, thinking she was seeing things because her eyes were tired from being closed too long. Had her mother really looked as if she’d become four or five years younger simply by using this Skin Moisturizer? This... This was even more effective than an elixir!
Her mother was definitely a beauty in her youth. Although she wasn’t breathtaking, she was nevertheless poised and gentle, utterly charming when she smiled. However, with age, especially after giving birth to her youngest brother, her complexion had turned somewhat yellow, and freckles had formed on her cheeks, which usually had to be covered with some powder.
But now, her mother had just washed her face, not applied any powder, and the freckles seemed to have faded a lot. If she weren’t so close, she might not have even noticed them.
Moreover, the yellowness of her mother’s skin had diminished considerably, making her look much more vibrant.
Everyone else was stunned as well. These women, who often interacted with Madam Leng, were very aware of her condition, so the improvement in her beauty was obvious at a glance.
"This... This is miraculous; it’s like she’s peeled off a layer of skin. How on earth did she manage this?" One of the ladies couldn’t help but exclaim, observing suspiciously her own heavily powdered face, revealing her own less than perfect, even somewhat blotchy complexion.
The others also crowded in, eager to get a closer look at the change in Madam Leng’s face. Concerns for admiring flowers or composing poetry were completely neglected now.
For women, becoming more beautiful is always of the utmost importance.
Madam Leng was slightly embarrassed being examined by the crowd. Hearing everyone compliment her on her improved appearance made her insides itch like a scratching cat. Anxiously, she took the small Mirror Box from her daughter’s hand to take a look at herself.
Upon seeing her reflection, she couldn’t help but show a delighted expression. Still uncertain, fearing that the powder was merely covering up the freckles, she quickly rubbed the areas where the freckles had been.
With that touch, she was startled once again. It was indeed her face, but it felt much softer, truly as if a layer had been peeled away to reveal tender flesh beneath. But Madam Leng knew that couldn’t be possible; if her skin had truly been peeled, she would have been in excruciating pain, right? Moreover, it would have been a bloody mess, frighteningly so.
Coming back to her senses, Madam Leng put away the mirror, smiling at Bai Ruozhu, "This gift is wonderful; thank you so much."
After saying this, she quickly stowed the Ink Jade Bottle filled with Skin Moisturizer, this time choosing not to hand it over to the maid but to carry it with her personally.
Leng Wanhua touched her own smooth face, saying with a giggling smile, "I should also thank you and Guizhi. I got quite tanned and my skin roughened from being outdoors recently. I didn’t expect it to brighten and become smoother today. Your Skin Moisturizer is magical."
Bai Ruozhu smiled and in front of everyone said, "This Skin Moisturizer is refined from over a hundred precious medicinal materials and is especially beneficial for skincare. The first use shows the most remarkable results; after that, each use isn’t as dramatic, and since it’s a precious substance, using too much without absorbing it is wasteful. So, you need only apply it three or four times a month, once every seven to ten days will suffice."
Hearing this, Madam Leng nodded and said with a laugh, "If each time could make me four or five years younger, wouldn’t I eventually become a child again, turning into a baby if enough time passed?"
The crowd laughed at her words, finding Bai Ruozhu to be quite forthright for sharing the properties of the Skin Moisturizer.
"Aunt, Wanhua, it’s not over yet; you still need to apply some water and cream, or your faces will likely become dry," Bai Ruozhu reminded the two to sit down again.
"Yes, yes, in such cold weather after washing your face, you need to apply some ointment." Mrs. Leng very cooperatively sat back in her seat.
Bai Ruozhu and Fang Guizhi took out the skin moisturizer and cream to apply to the two women, and for a moment their skin was moist and radiant, causing other women to look on with exceptional envy.
"I was wondering why Mrs. Jiang’s and her sister’s skin are so tender, turns out they have such treasures to nourish their beauty! Mrs. Jiang, you can’t play favorites; you have to make us beautiful too, right?" said the lady who had applied thick makeup, clearly unable to wait to become beautiful like Mrs. Leng.
Leng Wanhua quickly said, "Auntie Li, how could Ruozhu be biased? Our two families are relatives. Moreover, that ’Pure White Min Yu Ointment’ requires over a hundred types of precious medicinal materials to refine, so it’s very rare. Wouldn’t it be possible to visit Ruozhu’s Beauty Pavilion in the Capital to experience it?"
Bai Ruozhu also chimed in, "Today we only have these, but if you visit my Beauty Pavilion in the future, I will offer you all a VIP discount, how about 20% off?"
Although everyone was somewhat disappointed that they couldn’t become beautiful today, at least they had something to look forward to, and soon someone inquired about when Bai Ruozhu’s Beauty Pavilion would open.
Princess Huilan beside them displayed a look of disdain but hid it quickly, saying with a smile, "Mrs. Leng really dotes on Ruozhu. You specifically came her today to help her promote, didn’t you? Even I am quite jealous of Ruozhu."
At this point, some of the more astute ladies would have to be a ghost not to see what was going on.
Mrs. Leng said with a smile, "She has a way to make us women more beautiful; me promoting it isn’t such a big deal. I can’t exactly keep it hidden and deprive everyone of the benefits, can I?"
Bai Ruozhu inwardly gave Mrs. Leng thirty-two thumbs up; look at how well she spoke! There were indeed people in the Capital who, upon acquiring a good method, wouldn’t tell anyone else, fearing that they might steal the limelight. So when Mrs. Leng said this, the onlookers’ admiration for her grew even more.
Princess Huilan was so angry that she cursed inside. She thought for a moment before saying, "Is that dark stuff really useful? Aren’t you just too fond of that child, helping her along?"
Although the words were said politely, Mrs. Leng’s face had already fallen. It wasn’t possible that she had purposely made herself look like a yellow-faced woman with freckles just to let Bai Ruozhu stand out today, was it? If that was her plan, it had taken far too long, and the sacrifice had been far too great.
"Many of the ladies here are regular visitors; they all know what I look like," said Mrs. Leng, her tone becoming firmer. She could give face to Princess Huilan, but she wasn’t someone to be pushed around.
Bai Ruozhu watched anxiously. She didn’t want Princess Huilan’s dissatisfaction with her to spill over onto the Leng Residence. After a moment’s thought, she urgently said, "The Princess is always straightforward, and it’s right to have some questions. Why don’t we select another person to use the ’Pure White Min Yu Ointment,’ which would seem fairer."
She smiled apologetically at Mrs. Leng, "I’ll have to use some of your ’Pure White Min Yu Ointment,’ which I’m awkwardly asking for after giving it away as gifts. It’s rather embarrassing for me."
Mrs. Leng quickly took out the Ink Jade Bottle and handed it to Bai Ruozhu, "You’re being too polite, my girl. Just use it. After all, if I run out later, I can also have a facial at your Beauty Pavilion. As for the volunteer, let everyone else decide. Princess Huilan must agree for it to be fair."
Bai Ruozhu listened and chuckled inwardly. Mrs. Leng had played a move against Princess Huilan, proving that indeed many a Residence lady is an expert at household intrigue.
