Chapter 1085 - 1087: It Was Not An Accident, It Was Deliberate_1
Jianqi reacted the fastest. With a quick dodge, he was behind Bai Ruozhu and Bai Zepei and grabbed them both.
However, the railings that Bai Ruozhu and Bai Zepei were leaning on did not break; instead, it was the section next to a pillar where Tang Feng was leaning that had snapped!
Watching Tang Feng fall with the railings, Bai Ruozhu’s heart tightened as she shouted, "Be careful!"
Unfortunately, it was already too late; Tang Feng’s figure was gone, and the fat man who had suddenly leaned on the railings along with his servant also fell down.
In that moment, Bai Ruozhu felt anxious and wanted to rush over to see, but Jianqi pulled her back, "Master, the railings there have broken, and it’s unknown if they might collapse; you cannot go over."
"Yes, we should go down quickly and check," Bai Zepei also reminded her.
Bai Ruozhu inwardly cursed herself for losing her composure. After all, Tang Feng was just an unrelated person. But she had just met a fellow townsman, who was also so talented; it would be a real pity if he were to die like this.
At this point, the Restaurant was in complete chaos. There were screams in the Main Hall; the fallen section of the railings had hit people below, and the patrons who fell from the second floor had also struck the customers underneath, especially the fat man who had crushed three people at once.
"What kind of cursed place is this, how can it be so unsafe? Could it collapse again?" a terrified noble yelled out on the second floor, "And to think it’s called the top Restaurant in the Capital City, yet it’s so dilapidated with age!"
The shopkeeper downstairs reacted quickly, loudly stating, "Everyone, please don’t panic. The Restaurant was just renovated three months ago; there is no issue of it being dilapidated with age."
A patron injured in the leg cried out, "Then what is this that has happened now? We are hurt like this; are you still making excuses?"
Just then, someone suddenly shouted, "Who knows where it could collapse next, who would want to get hurt if they’re well and well, I’m not eating here!" After shouting, the person slammed an Ingot on the table and hurriedly stood up to leave.
It was like a thousand ripples at once, and suddenly everyone was scrambling, all rushing to leave the Restaurant, fearing another accident might occur.
The shopkeeper looked towards Bai Ruozhu, who was anxious to go downstairs, and made a silent query with his mouth: What should we do?
Bai Ruozhu had intended to go down, but now everyone was fighting to go downstairs and out, blocking the staircase completely. She could not push her way through, and she was eager to check on the injured patrons below.
"Jianqi, take me and my second brother down to have a look," Bai Ruozhu ordered.
"Yes," Jianqi replied. Grabbing a person with each hand, he leapt down with the two of them from the second floor.
"Never mind the leaving customers; rescuing the injured is crucial," Bai Ruozhu told the shopkeeper.
The shopkeeper came to his senses and immediately said, "Yes, yes, I’ll send someone to call the doctor."
"I’ll take a look myself. Have someone prepare some clean cotton cloth and some clean hot water, make sure it’s free of any grease," Bai Ruozhu instructed the shopkeeper and then told Jianqi to send someone good at lightness skills back to the Bai Residence to fetch her Medical Box.
It was only then that Bai Ruozhu noticed that among the injured moaning on the ground, Tang Feng was nowhere to be seen.
She instinctively raised her head and saw Tang Feng standing at the spot where he had fallen, seemingly examining why the railing had broken.
Bai Ruozhu felt relieved but also realized that Tang Feng possessed martial arts skills, encapsulating the best of both scholarly and martial talents, an undeniable advantage that transmigrators enjoyed.
Beside her, Bai Zepei paced to the broken railing and abruptly, his expression darkened as he loudly said to the shopkeeper, "Send someone to report to the Government Office immediately. This accident is no accident at all, but sabotage!"
The injured who were still groaning suddenly fell silent, and Tang Feng, who was upstairs, turned his head to look at Bai Zepei. Bai Zepei then turned to Bai Ruozhu and said, "You take care of the wounded first, and don’t move anything here. It will help the Government Office with their investigation later."
Bai Ruozhu nodded her head and began to treat the injured. She had already carefully assessed them—there were nine in total, with three suffering the most severe injuries. One was a fat man who had fallen from the second floor; although the fall was not from a great height, due to his substantial weight, he had internal injuries. On the other hand, his manservant was luckier, having fallen onto someone else and only dislocating his arm.
Another had his head struck by the railing and was bleeding profusely, requiring immediate hemostasis. There was also one more who was crushed under the fat man’s weight, suffering internal injuries and vomiting blood.
The rest had mostly superficial wounds or had hurt their arms and legs, or simply had cuts from shards of dishes and bowls.
"Don’t panic, everyone. I am a doctor and will treat each and every one of you. I won’t let anything happen to anyone," Bai Ruozhu said while taking out silver needles, ready to treat the person with a bleeding head.
However, someone in the crowd exclaimed, "Can someone as young as you really be a doctor? Maybe we should call for a better doctor instead; don’t misdiagnose us."
That person, who had lumped Bai Ruozhu in with the restaurant hosts, was distinctly less polite.
Then, Tang Feng, standing on the second floor, said loudly, "This brother lacks insight. Doctor Bai is a well-known divine doctor. Just recently, she diagnosed and saved the Dragon Heir in the Palace’s empress’s womb. Even the Emperor and the Empress Dowager have praised her greatly. Encountering her today is a fortunate stroke of luck amidst this misfortune."
The injured, many of whom knew of Tang Feng’s reputation, no longer showed any doubt following his words.
Bai Ruozhu looked up at Tang Feng and gave him a slight nod in thanks.
She then swiftly applied needles to stop the bleeding on the man’s head and soon the blood flow halted, and his complexion stopped being so pale. Following that, Bai Ruozhu took out a pill from her medicine box and had him swallow it, then wrapped up his wound.
"I feel much better now, thank you, Doctor Bai," the man said, and although his voice was weak, his spirits had noticeably lifted compared to before. Seeing this, the crowd’s doubts about Bai Ruozhu vanished, and they eagerly pressed her to attend to them, hoping to alleviate their pain quickly.
Immediately, Bai Ruozhu treated the fat man who had fallen from the second floor, while another person suffering from internal injuries coughed up blood and said, "If he hadn’t been so... cough, cough... careless to break the railing and hit us... cough, cough... how could we have been injured so badly? Instead of talking... cough, cough... you should treat me first; I’ve vomited a lot of blood."
Bai Ruozhu helplessly shook her head, "This has nothing to do with his weight; since it was deliberate, the accident was bound to happen sooner or later. He is just like you all, an innocent victim."
The person who spoke was taken aback, then began coughing violently again. But he said no more, his look towards Bai Ruozhu now filled with respect.
The accident at the restaurant had already caused public anger, and those who were injured were extremely dissatisfied. However, as long as they could find a scapegoat, their animosity towards the restaurant could be lessened—for instance, blaming the fat man for leaning too heavily against the railing. But Doctor Bai chose not to do so and instead spoke up for the fat man, saying a fair word on his behalf.
----
It’s definitely not because I am prejudiced against fat people; I’ve gained six jin myself recently, so I am reminding myself as well as everyone else to watch their weight, ah ah ah...
